  • I second www.byki.com they have languages you can't find in many other places (I'm learning Swahili ready for my voluntary work in Tanzania!)

  • There are loads of resources now available for learning languages online.

    Here's a tour of them:

The social networks for language learners are pretty good. I also use some of the flashcard type sites to learn my 10 daily words.

I'd definitely add italki.com and https://www.quisition.com to your article (and https://www.learnitlists.com of course!).

It is great, especially the podcasts which you can download for free. I listen to them on the way to work, and I have learned loads. I haven't paid for anything yet, as find what's on offer for free very good quality and helpful.

  • Hi Folks

I wrote a blog post on free and cheap resources for learning Spanish.... It's mainly aimed at those who live in a Spanish speaking country or region (especially Spain).

I've been listening to the podcasts at www.notesinspanish.com

There is stuff for sale there but the podcasts are all free. It's a much better way to get to work than flicking between Chris Moyles and Kerrang!

I've listened to some of those in the past. They are pretty good, and the chemistry between the English-Spanish couple doing them often makes the podcasts fun to learn. Secondly you get to learn some 'real native Spanish' which I've er.... 'impressed' some natives with in the past :o.
There's nothing worse than getting that 'fresh off the boat' look when you're only able to use your como esta usted pimsleur stuff :rotfl:

Has anyone ever used the 'Suenos - World Spanish' programme?
  • I would recommend LiveMocha. Good interactive language learning site. I started learning French as a comparative beginner two weeks ago and am really impressed with how it works. It's free and does lots of other languages.

I was searching itunes for some Spanish lessons and found SpanishDict.com really good. There are videos which I find easier to follow than audio.

There is a website which is free and is interactive, u get to watch the video, recall, listen write etc so lots of different things to help you remember. They teach you lots of vocabulary, plus how to use it in conversation. I started doing it on sunday and am really enjoying it!
