Things I have discovered in the last month / 6 weeks
batch cooking - no more trying to eat the last of a recipe up as we don't have a big enough freezer - it's great as I seem to make enough for 3 every time so we always get an extra portion.
crumble - I tried to make rhubarb crumble but a) couldn't peel the things and b) cooked them in with 1 inch of water in a dish with crumble mixture on top - we eat it all though and will try again next time despite it looking and tasting rather soggy. Lol
poaching fruits so they don't go off - I just tried some nectarines in a bit of water and a bit of sugar in a pan as they were going off - result.
Fruit and veg. Being unemployed has meant I have more time to shop for bargains at the market etc. For some reason I have also disovered there are more fruits than apples and bananas. And seasons - I mean wow what a great idea. Shopping in big supermarkets means you don't really notice seasons - well I didn't I wonder if I went around with my eyes blindfolded? Result has been more experimenting with fruit and veg and a more interesting diet.
Hm homous - despite several attempts I can't stand the stuff but Oh loves it. Don't know why I love the bought stuff but can't stand the stuff but am happy enough to make it for OH.
Lentils are difficult to cook and turn recipes into mush - must try harder.Making my money go further with MSE :j

Hello all !
Beautiful day........ roses are blooming a treat, bit too hot for me to sit out in it though...........not too good in the heat. Seems a shame but just one of those things.
Hope you're enjoying your day and hugs (((((((((:o ))))))) to all who need themMary

Welcome LeopardLady - now that you've found us let's hope your days are less lonely. I work from home, too, and this site, in particular this thread, has been a lifesaver as well as a moneysaver!
Mary - I've just sat out with a cuppa, watching a blackbird turning over some leaves as though he has lost a contact lense; it's way too hot to sit for long but it's so nice just to see the sun, isn't it?

Just thought I'd join in quickly as it's home time in 5minutes! Will reply more thoroughly when maternity leaves starts in 2 months. Can't wait, but at the same time, know I'm going to be bored until baby comes! Need to start me up a routine.
Candygirl – know the feeling re the dogs barking. 3 doors up from us, they have 2 dogs who are constantly barking. Bf said something to one of our other neighbours and now I’m worried that people will start to accuse our staffie of being the dog barking all day/night long when she doesn’t! Arrggh!
Pippa.s – heehee. Just the other day, I said to bf when he said pretty much the same thing, “Apparently, that’s how you know when you’re getting old. When you look as a nice sunny, breezy day and instead of thinking of a picnic, say, “Ooh, the washing will get nice and dry!” Heehee.
Blairweech – ooh, you’ve just reminded me I have tins of spaghetti hoops in the cupboard. That’ll go with my hm burgers and mash perfectly!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Oooh, Kathy have you got all those worms back in their can yet?
As someone said - quite rightly (taplady or Churchmouse I think but I could be wrong) - you don't *have* to like Andy Murray just because he is British. I agree that he comes across as miserable (though he did manage a few smiles last night) and arrogant but I think he is just desperate to succeed and doesn't really think about the image he is presenting. He will grow up and I'm sure we will see a very different person in 3-4 years. BTW, I actually think that Nadal can be quite arrogant-looking at times. Well, that's my tuppenny-worth so excuse me while I just climb down off the soapbox.
Aaaahhh! That's better. As for my weight loss - yes Churchie and Snowy, I thought the sensible rate was 1-2 lbs per week and I've been set 3 1/2 lbs. I'm pretty sure that I won't manage the whole stone but I'll certainly aim to lose at least 8lbs, which can only be good, right?
Celyn so wicked but so funny! :rotfl:
Happy Birthday to Miss Moneypenny!
Churchmouse hope the rib heals soon. Can you tell I've read your post. I've mentioned you THREE times!
Well, I need to get the curry started before I have to drive through rush hour traffic to pick DD up from her rounders tournament. Must remember to take some cotton wool for my ears as no doubt there will be lots of complaining on the way home.Only kidding but DD can be very voluble when she feels hard done by.
Have a good afternoon all. xx"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Donny - wanna start a thread in DT on the West Lothian question
?? Haven't a clue what DT is, and no not political in the slightest, watched it split my Dad and his sister years ago.
Would anyone like to tell me what the West Lothian question is?
As I may have said before - I thought I was a Yorkshire Lass until I researched the family tree, and found I was a right mongrel!

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Two loads of washing are out on the line and have herby chicken pieces in the oven which we will have with green beans and cauli cheese for tea.
Managed to order a repeat prescription over the phone this afternoon so I do not have to walk around in all the heat.
DD(14) is due home any minute.
She dropped a jar of jam this morning all over the kitchen flooor and thought I would be cross and was stunned when I just checked she was not hurt, reassured her accidents can happen to anybody and calmly swept it up.
Kitchen floor needed a good mop round anyway.
Hugs to everyone having a tough time.
Trying very hard not to be tempted by the Remoska as I have just ordered a Panny in the Amazon sale and got our fan operated double oven repaired.
On the other hand it would be saving electricity. Mmmm!"This site is addictive!"
