sophiesmum I am so so sorry to hear about your brother. Sometimes I despair of NHS professionals.
What happened to my Mum is nowhere near as bad as your family's problems ...I had been going back and forward to the GP saying she was deteriorating but no-one would listen. 2 days before she was admitted as an emergency (the week after DH's funeral) I was told "It's a normal grief reaction" and "It's the pain from her hip".
Now, 5 weeks later and still in hospital, "they" have decided she is too poorly to return home and is going into residential care.
I do aplogise for going on about my own problems but I want you to know I can empathise a bit with your frustration when medical people dismiss us as worrying too much because they are so clever
And I was a staff nurse for years.0 -
Janey , sorry to hear about your mum, difficult for you to be dealing with stuff like that when you are still grieving for Tom. Agree with you on the frusration bit, there is a wonderful health service out there with lots of skilled and dedicated staff but accessing it can be hard work getting past the gatekeepers:mad:.
Hope your mum gets the care that she deserves :grouphug:0 -
sophiesmum So sorry to hear about your brother. Let's hope he will now get the pain relief he needs.
Whitewing Nice to see you back, pleased it all went well. HIow lucky that you both agree on the budgeting.
Janie51 Sorry to hear about your mum. You are lucky to have two lovely sons who are supporting you.
I had a NCD yesterday (no cook day) as DH did lunch - sausage sandwiches as he picked up some 1/2 price nice ones then we went to local pub for their half price fish and chips - £2.47 for fish chips and peas and £1.24 for apple pie and 2 scoops of ice cream or proper custard. They even let us have a tikka off the main menu at half price as DS1 will not eat fish. So five mains and puds cost just under £20 + one round of drinks. And we walked there and back.
Back to reality today. DH is getting ready for retirement by spending twice over his final months salary. I don't really mind as the stuff he got for DD1 it has been agree that this will be her 21 birthday present as she will keep it a long time and it will be something to remember. And she can't think of anything else she needs/wants. She's quite frugal too.
Targets for today - bread, shopping, finish bread, next coat of paint on outside house, garden, tonight - ironing and update spreadsheet (guess which wont get done!)
Hope you all have a good frugal day!Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

Sorry to post such a negative thread but needed to vent somewhere:o
Catch up with you all later.
Good morning you too. Ach that's awful news. You have every right to be angry and upset. We all need to have a vent at times. You do realise don't you it's a good thing to just get a little reminder now and then just how fortunate we are.

Can I just be lazy and second everything that Bails has just said? :grouphug: for everybody!!!
Cold is tad better today. Still terrible headache. I was a really bad mum today and locked myself into DD's room to have a bit of a lie in. When I finally ventured downstairs just before 12DD was sleeping in my bed. She had helped herself with some oranges so she was ok - I hope
.
Wishing everybody the best of weekends,

I tried to be really frugal earlier... walked into Swindon for my shopping (7 mile round trip, saved £3 bus fare), spent a Boots voucher to buy some bits for my holiday in Scotland in a weeks time. Then spent some points in Sainsburys to buy food for the week, so only cost me 40p.... Then I spotted lots of cross stitch kits in the Oxfam window. I came away with two kits for £5.99 each. Normally they'd be closer to £30 each so a real bargain, and they should be big enough to keep me occupied for the next couple of years!
Glad you're feeling a little better Marru! Hugs to everyone who needs it!Live on £11k in 20110 -
Thanks for the support everyone, was feeling very down this morning. I love this little frugal community:A :A.
(((hugs:heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls ))) for anyone else who needs one for whatever reason. Marru hope your cold is starting to feel better.
Filled car up this morning £50, spent £2 on car park at hospital, £1.00 on two coffees for me and mum and £5 on two sandwiches. Will be going again tomorrow for a couple of hours, but will take sarnies and a flask for us both, Mum is spending 12 hours a day there at moment so will be one less thing for her to think about. Brother is looking much better now he is getting proper pain relief:D0 -
Sophiesmum I am so sorry for what has happened. I don't trust hospitals at the worst of times to be honest. I can not beileve the miss treatment he received  . I would put forth a formal complain for what happened. Thank goodness someone made sure he got help. I dred to think what would happen otherwise. Keep your head up ok. I know it's not easy when life throws you one hell of a curve ball :grouphug: (just imagine it's not what it looks like but a normal hug ok :rotfl: )
To do with the 5 a day challenge:
Breakfast: banana, dates, pineapple juice (3)
Lunch: stuffed marrow; onion, pepper, courgette, tomato with cheezly ontop (2.5 as had half the other day and eating the 2nd half today)
Dinner: Onion barges (sp?), onion rings, sweetcorn and humous (2)
So that is 7.5 out of the 5 a day :T .I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -

Wow! I thought I'd done well walking about a mile to summer meadows. Spent £18.53 on lots of whoopsies :j and could only just carry it back - up hill all the way home, so that was frugalcise too:D0
