Live on £4000 for a year - Part 3

Lyndasharp - It was your post that made me laugh when I read the cat had been sick under your bed! I couldn't help but wonder why you had a fellow frugaler hiding under there in the first place. :rotfl: I'm glad Betsy Belle is back on the road and I still think garage bills beat vets' bills, especially of the horse variety.
IT REALLY WASN'T ME THIS TIME!!!
But you have got me thinking........ one of my top plans for keeping warm this winter is to visit people who put the heating on. Shall I add you to my list of 'victims' Lyndasharp?:rotfl:

We're back, married and about to live 'happily ever after'. Have to go back to page 41 to catch up where I left off.
Had a lovely time, and can't believe how different it feels to be married.
(Only went slightly over budget on the wedding, and our daily cash budget for the hols went well).
Hello everybody!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Good morning frugallers,
Welcome back Mrs Whitewing:beer: Hope you had a lovely time.
Feeling very down and angry this morning:mad: As you know we are already dealing with my Dad having terminal cancer. I have a baby brother who is 33 and is severely disabled, he lives at home with my parents and is 100% dependent on them for everything as he has cerebral palsy and brain damage. For months now he has been unwell, losing weight and complaining of lots of pain. Mum has had him in and out of A&E and to GP and been fobbed off with antibiotics, and even anti depressants as " he's probably depressed". She finally demanded very vociferously that the GP refer him for a body scan as he is literally wasting away before us. Got the results yesterday that he has second stage liver cancer and a cancerous tumour on his spine:mad:   , there is also a primary cancer somewhere else that they haven't found yet!!! He has now been admitted and has major pain control in place but I feel so angry that someone who is unable to express their pain verbally has been left to suffer so long. The prognosis is not good but at least now thanks to mum's persistence, he is getting the medical attention he should have had months ago.
I will be heading into town this morning to buy something to cheer him up before heading to the hospital for the day. He is actually in hospital in Liverpool and not our own town as he is in a specialised neurological unit, so lots of travelling and petrol costs on the horizon.
Sorry to post such a negative thread but needed to vent somewhere:o
Catch up with you all later.0 -
Oh Sophiesmum, that is awful. They've treated him as a second class citizen just because he can't speak up for himself! Thank goodness your Mum didn't give up.
What a lot your family has to cope with - big hugs from me and just to let you know I'm thinking of you ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Welcome back Mrs. Whitewing!

Don't forget the rabbit, he'd be most upset at being left out
Well I'm now officially single again. I was hoping to see now ex bf today so that he could break up with me in person, but he's sent an email instead. Back to plenty of fish I guess....
Whitewing, congratulations!!!!
Sophiesmum, so sorry to hear about your brother, I'm glad he's finally getting the care that he needs.Live on £11k in 20110 -
Lovely to see you Whitewing. How is Mr Whitewing enjoying married life?
One of my sons paid me a fantastic compliment yesterday. I should say that both my sons are really good managing their money and have never asked me for anything. I was a single parent for many years and DS2 had to work his way through university as I had no cash to give him. All I could do was put him up during holidays and even then he had a job at local Mr M stacking shelves and gave me money when he couldMy ex husbnad stopped paying child support after 6 months and it was pretty tough but they have turned into great men :j
So, DS2 and I were chatting on the phone and he said that his attitude towards money grew from watching the way I struggled to make ends meet. He knew that if you wanted something you had to work b***** hard to get it and you always paid your bills before buying the fun stuff. At one point i was working 80hrs a week ....until I collapsed in a heap and was off sick for months with depression
And then he said "I know you are pretty frugal :T :j  "
I couldn't have been more chuffed if he'd bought me a big bouquet of flowers.
I have official outside confirmation of my status as a frugalist
And on that note....my SIL's husband is off to buy my paint for my bedroom at 20% off :j And DS1 and DIL have offered to paint it for me
I need to carefully consider whether I can stretch to new bedding. Absolutely nothing wrong with the 10yr old stuff I have but not the right colour. That has never bothered me before ....as long as things are clean I'm not bothered about matching colours usually. Can't dye it as it's multi coloured and would probably look strange.
Might consider making it but still can't concentrate and I'm scared it ends up in the back of a cupboard with other unfinished projects0
