That's great that it's the kitchen and dining areas tomorrow as I had planned that anyway!!!

The thread worm thing reminds me of 11:55 an New Years Eve 2 years ago when DD1 asked me to look because she was itchy...and there was a crowd of people waiting downstairs to do auld lang syne. My mum and I checked and then rushed downstairs before the search party arrived - and yes we held her hands (one on each side of her) to stop others having to!!!

Looks very intense now but he's pleased and we promised he could have any colour he wanted! DS2 went for subtle blues in his room.

I learnt an expensive lesson today, I needed carrrots for dinner but I know if I go I will buy loads of other stuff I don't need so I sent the TT told one of them to get the value ones.
Half an hour later they arrive back with ORGANIC carrots, they cost me an arm and a leg! That'll teach me for trying to avoid spending by using the kids.

      Hi everyone

I've not been posting as I've been busy packing. The removal men are coming on Wednesday to collect the stuff thats going into storage, so to keep the costs down, we've been taking loads of carp over to my Mum's. She's in Australia for 6 weeks, so I've got ages to tidy up

I'll be keeping up with the thread, hugs to everyone and welcome to all the newbies xx

ARGH!!! Both boys have thread worm, I was warned it was going round in schools here last week so have been checking, found some tonight. So off to research what I need to do, never dealt with it before, DPs about ready to throw up as can't handle stuff like that. Looks like 2 boys off school tomorrow!

      1. It is pointless keeping the boys off school they have had them for AT LEAST 6 weeks already.. worms are only passed out of the body to lay eggs around the anus (usually at night) it is the eggs which pass it on. So long as they are washing their hands well after using the toilet.. and being boys it only 'really' needs to be when they've had a number 2.. it is unlikely they will pass on anything in the space of the 6 hours they are at school

      2. People get way too hysterical about this subject.. worms are actually quite good for you.. they manage the bacteria in the gut so unless they have a metabolic disorder they are not an issue and with correct hygiene are self eliminating.. correct hygiene and children is a total nono but hey ho suhc is life.

      3. .. Prescription for VERMOX (nice orange taste unlike the pripsen which the smell makes you hurl!) from the GP.. one spoonful before bed one day and another spoonful before bed 4 weeks later they are gone.. unless they have picked up more eggs in the mean time.. in which case you are peeing in the proverbial wind! because 6 weeks later you will be right back at square one.

      4. Thread worms are less contagious than headlice.. less prevalent than headlice.. easier to get rid of than headlice and less damaging to the child than headlice.. would you keep a child off school because htey had a louse or two?

Keep to their routine and add a spoonful of medicine before bed just inform the school tomorrow they need to make sure hteir hands are washed adequately after using the loo and if they will use it a dose of antibac rub.. they should have that at school!

Oh.. and tell DP to stop being such a pansy as he probably has them too! lol (he probably hasn't but the look on his face will be woirth it!)

      Hello everyone.

I'm planning on being in tomorrow as usual, as the state of the house is still doing my tree in. We have spent most of the weekend doing stuff and i still don't feel much further on even though we barely stopped. I guess it will be this way for a good while, and then i'll go back to work and it will be worse  but i will keep trying.

tinsel hugest congratulations. We are now a family of 4 too, so i can appreciate fully what this has meant to you. I remember what you went through, so i am pleased it worked out.

nicki loving your piccies of the lambananas. What a great activity to do, and your DD looked like she was really enjoying it too.

lil-me i have picked this up before from either the school canteen or the delightful oiks i teach who thought it was kind to offer me the goodies they made in food tech. I've learnt my lesson now and don't join in either activity. I read that it was advisable to iron the bed sheets to kill off anything, and also it helped to wash the anus in the morning as it removes any eggs that have been laid. Mostly the eggs are laid overnight when the body is warmest and least active. It reminds me of when my youngest sister was 3 and at nursery, and she used to get them almost weekly, and the treatment 20 years ago was a horrible pink drink. I shudder at the memory. Thank god treatments have advanced since then.

who was it who said about gloves in bed? I did used to wear gloves in bed when i had dermatitis. I was supposed to smother my hands in a steroid cream and wear plastic gloves over the top in bed, to help the cream absorb, but the gloves used to fall off, so i stuck woolie ones over the top. :D Good job it was a student house and freezing cold at the time.

Right, list before the pirhana (ds2) wants feeding again. He was a proper limpet all of yesterday and last night, and i fed him at 5ish this morning, he was really whingy at 6 so dh got up with him to let me sleep for longer, and the greedy boy had 5oz of formula, then fed from me for nearly an hour at 9. I should be wasting away but i am a pig so i am not.

      7. airers - remove dry stuff, reload with any wet stuff
Dh did some of the kitchen for me over the weekend so it is fairly tidy - he went through the pantry and we binned some really out of date stuff and cleaned the floor - he didn't do the shelves for me, but i will try and do one a day or something when i wash up at lunchtime (8 in total to do). I also noticed that my one cupboard in the kitchen is a bit dusty, so i need to take the stuff out and clean it, but unfortunately it contains all the plates/bowls/cups/glasses/dishes etc etc that we own piled up high, so i am reluctant to start, but it has got to be done this week.

lil_me Well that's motivation for you if ever I heard it ;). As a mother of 3 young kids, I always wondered how you would know if your kids had them? Unlike nits (which also freak me out) it's not like you can see them unless you're specifically looking for them so I guess you were lucky (if you can call it that) that you knew to be on the lookout. Anyone know what happens if you don't know about them and therefore don't treat them? The kids hate that I check their hair for nits every week, I really don't think they could take it if I started checking them for worms too  :rotfl:
Oh no these things are a real pain in the butt!. Working with year one kids, they are as much as hazard of the job as nits.

Main thing is to treat all the family with Pripsen or Ovex. Wash all the bedding at 60C to kill the eggs.
Change towels and facecloths daily. Vac bedrooms daily and s&s the loo and surrounding floor. Make sure the kids nails are cut really short. Pants and Jammies in bed to make it harder for them to scratch.

The cycle is about two weeks from start to finish.

Apparently 1 in 10 children in primary school are infected at any one time. So chances are there are at least three and a half kids in my class with them at any one time!

oh.. and another point.. the pripsen yes it is cheap (and tastes rank.. ref. michelle 'horrid pink drink') but if DS has an issue with parasites DON'T use it.. the worms are passed whole & not always dead.. vermox dissolves them.. I have no experience of ovex.. I thought that was eardrops?!

Guess whose house is constantly riddled with parasites.. hubby had them not so long ago.. I routinely worm my brood every 3-6 months.. like dogs!
