Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

We have just contacted calor and our price is 37.9p/l and have offered us £100 credit if we sign a contract0
-
Just had a letter through from Calor offering £100 credit (Paid £50 in 45 days, £50 1 year after contract is signed)
Also a reduction in my price of gas to 37.4ppl. Of course there is still a standing charge...
This is for an average 1 fill of the tank per year (2000 litre tank) I have to sign within 30 days of receiving the letter to take advantage of this special offer.
Forgotten what my old rate was, but interesting the pricewar seems to be starting ahead of the April legislation changes...
Any others getting similar letters?0 -
I too had the bribe letter from Calor.
But they offered me lpg @39ppl. Regional pricing I guess.
I've still no intention of entering a contract with them. I have learnt from experience that as soon as you sign up, eggs is eggs that they'll hike the price for your next tank fill.
I'll wait a bit longer for a price war, hopefully, develops!0 -
I just received a contract from Shell LPG,
I thought it was a bit strange as I have not signed one since building the house and getting LPG 8 years ago, and didn't think it was expiring any time soon.( nothing about the expiration on the new contract)
I am in the process of fitting a GSHP ( Ground source heat pump) because LPG is sooo expensive and the GSHP will be cheaper than mains gas.( hopefully)
anyway I got suspicious and did a google , only to find this thread..
looks like they are all at it,
Shell want me to sign for two years
price fixed for 6 months at 41.5ppl and £60 a year tank rental.
now I know why.
also interesting is the price increase clause in their very small print,
clause 6.4
They wont increase the price by more than 10ppl in any 6 months, but if they do then you have the right to cancel the contract after giving 45 days notice.
I wonder how many do that??
Shells very nice presentation folder is very helpful... it explains what to do to make your life easy.

1. Check your details
2. Sign the Agreement
3. Post it back to us '

We've just moved into a house that has an LPG tank at the bottom of the garden, and Flogas are the supplier.
A contract has been provided by the landlord, a 2 year term of 39ppl+vat and a 21.9ppd standing charge. It's not clear if that charge includes VAT either - terrible contract also has no fixed price period or cap on the price. Like, wow, pretty poor basic contractual stuff you'd expect.
We haven't signed and returned the contract yet as I've been reading this forum on LPG and the imminent change in supplier regulations and options for consumers.
Is LPG the nightmare it sounds from these forums? Is this a good deal?0 -
Hi Paul
You do not have to sign the contract, and personally I wouldn't. Your landlord may not be aware, but customers with LPG tanks have the right to shop around (assuming that the tank was not recently installed and is covered by an exclusivity clause). If you can come up with a better deal, which is quite likely, the new supplier can take over the tank and "infrastructure" without the need to rip out the Flogas tank and install another. As a tenant, you will clearly have to agree this with the landlord, but I can't imagine why he/she would object. Also, quite a lot of people have found that just the threat of switching usually triggers a better offer from Flogas. The best way to tackle such a discussion is to do your homework first - get a handle on what other people are negotiating - this site is a good place to start. Good luck.0 -
Well it'll soon be time I filled my tank again. I phoned CALOR gas (with whom I had my contract - expired Dec 08) and have been quoted just over 40ppl and 16.9ppd tank hire. I phoned FLOGAS and they've quoted 35ppl, but 27.4ppd for the tank hire. I'm in East Sussex. Can anyone beat this? Any recommendations? I am aware of the changes later this month.

Just been onto the LPG solutions Site and registered with them. Anyone with any experience there?

DicDu - We'll hang on the couple of days till after monday (13th) and phone round. I'm quite sure the landlord wouldn't mind at all if we switched supplier if notified. I think it might be a fairly new tank tho which may be a niggle.
Ironnick - Yeah, I registered there too. Response sounds hopeful, let's see in a few days.0 -
Have a look at lpgwatch - unfortunately the forum won't allow me to type in the link, but that should get you there. This site is unfortunately not hugely active, but there is some useful info on there, for example prices currently being quoted to a couple of contributors who did a ring round of Calor, Flogas, BP, Shell, etc. Prices per litre vary from 30p to 39.5p plus VAT, plus day or annual rent (but some will waive). So Paulpod, your 39p + VAT + 21.9p rent is at the top end of the scale.0
