I'm just about to start fresh negotiations with Calor after 2 years locked in at 39p. Has anybody got any recent quotes that they would like to share so I can get a feel of the market.
I also put a query into LPG Save but received nothing back and that was over 2 weeks ago. Has anybody got any recent experience with them as well?
Underground Tank, 1500L. Using approx. 4000L / year
My recent negotiations all for 2 year contracts.
    Contract Expired 10th September 2023, previously fixed at 32ppl Y1, 35.5ppl Y2.
    Location: Oxfordshire

    Flogas
    51ppl fixed for 2 years
    or
47ppl fixed for 12 months with max 10ppl price rise in year 2 (i.e. 57ppl in year 2)
    £99.00 standing charge

    Calor
    47.9ppl fixed for 12 months
+3.5ppl per quarter in year 2 (would hit 61.9ppl after 4 quarters)
    £91.72 standing charge

    Avanti
    43ppl - fixed for 6 months
    47ppl - fixed for 12 months
    58ppl - fixed for 24 months
    £110.00 standing charge

Standing charges seem to be the new go-to area for unjustified and unavoidable increases. None of those quotes seem all that generous, keep looking!

  • Just at the end of a 24 month contract with Avanti in Fife, Scotland. Currently been paying 35p per litre.

Here's what I've been offered so far:

Avanti offer 1: 43p fixed for 6 months, max 5p in any given 6 months. (would hit 58p potentially by the end of the agreement) £66 standing charge.

Avanti offer 2: 45p fixed for 12 months. max 5p in any given 6 months (would hit 55p potentially by the end of the agreement) £66 standing charge.

Flogas through LPGSave: 49p litre fixed for 24 months plus £66 standing charge.

Still waiting to hear from Calor who seem to be the only other option.

No experience with Flogas although Avanti have had us nearly running out a few times over the winter.

Avanti must think you are an idiot. Tell them you you have grey cells, and want a 24m quote, and be quick about it, because all of the other suppliers can do it ..
Try Flogas direct. Last time round they were actually cheaper for me than lpgsave.
I have been with all of them over the years .. Flogas, Avanti, Calor, Woldlink ..and there is nothing to choose between them. None of them has ever run me out of gas, though Avanti came closest. I was so cross their MD apologised to me..
In my opinion *nobody* should accept less than a two year quote, for a two year contract.

I have been with flogas for a few years. They have never let us run out of gas. Have sent a competent experienced engineer to check tank when I asked. You have to threaten to leave every for quotes to get their best price. Overall I have felt they are competitive and competent.
    hope this helps.

Would you be happy to reveal your current deal?  I'm on 53ppl and was wondering if that is still competitive

I'm on 47p/l, fixed for two years from September last year. It was a respectable deal at the time but is feeling a little on the high side, now.

I've just ordered 1000 litres @ 48ppl, so a drop of 5ppl from my February order.  I don't pay tank rental, so that still looks fairly competitive.

I recently had an email from LPGsave offering 49ppl fixed for 2 years, but with £60 a year tank rental

    Update on my prices:

Calor came back with 48p fixed for 1 year, with max 3.5p increase per quarter after that, so could hit 62p for the last 3 months.

I asked Avanti for a fixed 24 month quote and they came back with 58p!

Tried negotiating with Calor, but didn't get anywhere.

  • Just started the hunt for lowest price bulk LPG, contract runs out mid November. I live in South Oxfordshire. Using ~2500 litres per year.
The opening salvo from my incumbent Flogas is 65ppl and 27ppd for the UG tank.
My existing terms with them are 41ppl and 21.9ppd :-O

They will fill out of contract for 75ppl and a possible £75 delivery charge. Generous :-(

What should I be aiming for? 49ppl?

My tank is 76% full, could I get a top up at my existing rate?

Definitely think you should aim for under 50p. Try LPG Save as well as the other available suppliers.
So long as you ask for a top-up before the date of the contract expiry (you can do this online)  it should be at the same rate.. but they will only fill it to c80% capacity, so unless there is a big cold spell soon it may not be worth the bother.
Good luck .. let us know how you get on!
