  • Hi , so I'm in the process of getting site surveys done for the lpg bulk tank etc, this is all new to us and we have never had lpg before and thanks to this forum I'm gathering info as I go along..
Can anyone pass on any comments good or bad for Countrywide LPG...it's one I have lined up
    TIA
Hi, I've been with Countrywide for many years now and have always found them good. At contract renewal time I've always been able to negotiate them down to more or less the going rate as outlined on this forum.

    HOWEVER

They have now been taken over by DCC (the parent company went bust a few months ago) and they also own Flogas. Only yesterday I received a letter from Flogas welcoming me to Flogas from 1st October. Now iff you read this thread you will understand why I'm not a happy bunny

When I re-signed with Countrywide earlier this year I got them to agree to no more than a 3p rise in the second year regardless of what happens to the market rate for LPG. It remains to be seen what Flogas try to do to me when the first year is up but I have my suspicions.

So keep looking and good luck.

Thank-you, I may be limited to suppliers depending on their available tanker sizes, so until they come down it's not a done deal,......I will keep looking at the same time.

Any recommendations from anyone using lpg suppliers the Worcester area, with possibly smaller tankers for deliveries
Also what should I be asking/pushing for for the 2nd year, and what constitutes a breach of contract RE the seller
    TIA

Look at the bottom of a post. There's two "speech bubble" icons. One's orange and a single bubble - that quotes that post.

    Many thanks.

I successfully challenged FG earlier this summer when they wanted to impose a 10p rise in the second year of my 2 year contract. I quoted clause 8.3 of my contract requiring them to give details of the relevant Platts index to justify any increase beyond 5p/litre. As they had not done that they backed down and merely added the contractual 5p/litre increase!

Thanks for this. I'm still in year 1 (30ppl + VAT with £150 credit, Yr2 cap at 5p extra pl), which runs out in November. I'll try to get a full tank worth of LPG just before the price changes.
I'm on my UG tank now so the capacity has gone up from 1600 litres (for the old above ground tank) to 2200. So I should be able to get 1760 litres in it (at 80%) capacity. Hopefully enough for the Winter.

Interestingly I've got remote telemetry installed on the UG tank so I can see the tank level (as a percentage) on the FG website.
I presume if I change supplier after Year 2 that will stop working.

The telemetry is handy, but i had a gas meter fitted "£50 new from ebay & £30 extra labour while the boiler was being serviced". Now i can read down to a 100th of a cubic meter if needed. But, per cubic meter is fine & is all measured by: c/meter at the gas meter X fluid liters to cubic/vapour/meters x price of LPG per Lt.
    So, 1 x 3.85 x 0.32p = £1.15 per cubic meter of gas vapour.
Its been a great help to me as i rent rooms in my house & i can see if its worth turning of rads or not & adjusting boiler running times.
  • I recently moved to a property that requires LPG gas and was rather daunted as I knew nothing out this esoteric way to heat one's home. I spoke to an extremely kind advisor at Worldlink who not only got me a great deal on LPG gas, but was patient enough to walk me through all relevant areas a new LPG customer should be comfortable with. I whole-heartedly recommend Worldlink for those looking to get a new bulk LPG gas as their customer service and quality of service are both superlative.

So here's Woldlink's bulk LPG page. Woldlink is a farmers' co-op in the Lincolnshire Wolds, and every poster on this forum speaks highly of their helpfulness AND their prices. They get the majors to deliver ....so you can guess how much profit the majors are getting from individuals with their individual contracts! Just read the forum to see some totally rip-off prices. And see bobmac62's useful posts for the latest Woldlink monthly price (34.97) (post #3178)

Most of the independent suppliers which posted their prices on-line no longer do so (e.g. Listers - now swallowed up by Avantigas, Birmingham Autogas - now shy, Carver Gases - now shy too!....shy = 'please phone for a quote'). Only Cardiff Gas is quoting 43ppl (+20pd tank rental) on-line with Extrafuel giving a price of 53.64ppl (BUT I know you'll get a much better price when you ring/email).

So why are the suppliers who formerly posted on-line no longer doing so? My guess is that they know that the big suppliers (Calor, Flogas and Avantigas) will beat their quote for year one of the standard two year contract. Then in year two they can make the profit....

NOT that they do not make a profit anyway. When Woldlink was charging its customers 20ppl Woldlink was paying Flogas 14ppl (how do we know? Because someone let slip the info). Flogas delivered, did all the billing, etc...

Maybe HateLPG will post another couple of graphs. But there are fewer points to plot as you can see from the above. His last graphs were here.

If you want a flat line on the graph he should plot the price Mister G (post #3164) pays his small local independent supplier (HBS): 30ppl for the last 3 1/2 years!

    Robert?
    A very helpful chap IME

    PS
The G in LPG stands for Gas, so you don't need to write gas after LPG ;):p
