  • I have just come across this site having been prompted to do a search online after receiving a letter from my current supplier (Flogas) offering a contract. The price they are quoting is 52ppl + VAT. I currently pay 67ppl so am keen to find a better deal.
Having read through some of the posts on this thread it would appear I'd be better of speaking to a local independent supplier to negotiate a better deal.
Please can anyone help me identify who my local independents are?
My postcode is LL55 and is in north west Wales.
    Many thanks

All you may be interested I negotiated an umbrella contract with flogas for our 37 houses , that puts all under one contract , this means we cannot be held by those who sign new individual contracts as people move , this gives us the ability to move suppliers if required . Flogas have been very good and agreed to fix prices in 6 month blocks based on market price ,
You may be interested we secured a fixed price of 44ppl from jan 13 to June 13 , and now 41.5ppl for July 13 to jan 14 . If all those on an estate get together and all agree to work as one voice you I am sure can make the same happen .

Welcome to the forum and thanks for a fantastically useful post.

Could you make it even more useful by telling forum users the name of the estate, where it is - and the name of the Flogas person who oversaw the contract, please.

I think other people who live on LPG-fuelled estates and who post tales of woe will be very pleased to read your post - and to quote all the info to try to get a better deal for themselves.

    Welcome to the forum.

The independent which comes up on the UKLPG members' website for LL55 is Cambrian Gas (http://www.cam-gas.co.uk/bulk-tanks.htm). Extra Fuel (non-UKLPG member) might subcontract deliveries (as they do for me in Cornwall) - works fine and I pay their prices, posted monthly on http://www.extrafuel.co.uk There may be others.

The best deal I could find (in LL49) was with Avantigas - 2 years fixed at 42ppl +vat
Not an 'independent' but too good to miss :)

I find a two-year fixed price contract from any energy supplier hard to believe in the current climate of uncertainty. Coming from an LPG supplier, it is simply extraordinary, especially if it is fixed at 42ppl.

If they really are offering a two-year fix (I presume you've checked the small print very carefully), then:
    a) You're using an obscene amount of LPG ;); or
    b) You've got a cracking good deal; or
    c) Avanti know something we don't; or
    d) Avanti are looking to build up a formidable customer base before trying to sell out to either Calor of Flogas (God forbid, and highly unlikely)!
If it is for real, sign ASAP. If it were me, I would also try to get them to include a specific clause that would release me from any contractual obligations in the event that they sell the business. YMMV.

    Here, for your collective enjoyment.

It appears that prices may now have "bounced" for this year, not helped I suspect, by a slowly weakening pound. I don't have a crystal ball, but if you are looking for a deal right now and someone offers a fix at anything less than 43ppl, it's probably worth very serious consideration.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a letter in relation to increase in their tank rental charge from Listers. We are apparently low usage customers and so our tank rental is being increased from £50 a year to £15.99 (+vat) a month - so now at least £200 a year. A not inconsiderable increase. This is due to apparent 'great increase in tank maintenance charges and tank replacement costs'. We have an underground tank which has been in since the house was built in 1996 and currently pay 47.5ppl. We do not use the 2000ltrs a year that Listers say is needed as a minimum to make the installation financially viable. We are now out of contract with Listers - but to be honest have been very happy with them and this is the first issue I've had with them. We are low usage as we have a woodburner that we use regularly and don't over use the gas as it is pricey. Seems as if we are being penalised in other ways for using less gas. I can't see how gas usage can affect the level of maintenance a tank will require. Or maybe I'm wrong....

what size do LPG tanks go upto?? i am thinking domestic by the way not commercial tanks. I have seen mention of 1200 ltr's on here but are there any bigger ones?
the other thing i was wondering was how much in a year would you exspect to use purely for cooking even if you cook say 2-3 times a day on a 6 burner stove?
