Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

p.charnick Hi
I don't know the price of tanks but be aware that you will be responsible for the maintainance and servicing of it.
I believe that there is an annual inspection and also a major inspection which includes ultra sound at 10 year intervals, these would be quite expensive also you will need to be insured against injury or damage to third partys in the unlikly event of it exploding.
You might even be limited to just a few suppliers as most I believe won't supply unless it is their tank.
You may get more info from extra fuels as they sell tanks.

I have been told by a reliable source that the Calor gas site in Kings lynn is going to close in March, even the staff dont know. Another company is in negotiations with Calor to take the site over. The site mainly deals with gas bottle supplies.
If this is true then its a start. One down and a lot more to go.0 -
Last year's CC ruling *may* have had a minor affect on prices, but that is questionable: Just heard on the radio that British Gas are reducing their price to domestic customers by 7%. This is apparently the *THIRD* reduction in price in the last twelve months, and is a result of the reduction in wholesale gas prices.
And yet LPG prices go in just one direction, and as fast as the suppliers can get away with. up uP UP!!!!!
I despair0 -
Hi, please could anyone help me ! i have BP LPG gas in my home, and its costing me a fortune! i had my tank filled up the first week in December 09 it cost £883.63 for 80% of a 2000ltr tank it now the first week of Feb 10 and its run out, thats almost £100 per week for gas both my husband and i work so we only put it on in the evenings and our cooker has a gas hob and it also runs our shower, i just dont know where its gone ! we have run out of contract with them and just received a letter telling me the gas has gone up again from 49p to 55p per ltr, and after reading all the other comments, saying the company should be servicing the tank, i have never seen mine done, and am wondering if it ever has been, we have had ours 9 yrs this year. Also please could someone confirm that if switching companies you dont have to change the tank ? as i desperate to purchase more gas but i am reluctant to buy from BP as they are so expensive, i live in Blackwood S.Wales
I did enquire about 2 yrs ago about having mains gas but they wanted £79,000 + vat to put a pipe line 460 meters to my property so that is out of the question.0 -
I am (was) with Flogas. They currently want 56p/litre and 11.31 per day standing charge. Calor are offering 38.5p/l & 16.9p/day standing charge, £100 credit, with terms that if the price per litre rises by more than 3.5p in a sixth month period, I can leave the 2 year deal - which seems good to me. Calor gas take on the tank, so there is no need to mess about with new installation.
Of course Flogas immediately offered me a 13p "saving"/litre to stay (in other words are over charging by 13p/litre) but it's still a no brainer. NB The telephonist at Flogas said the average LPG price is currently 43p/litre. So why don't they automatically offer that to existing customers?
My biggest incentive to start looking around was caused by Flogas's habit of sending price increase notifications that just happen to arrive in the post the same day the LPG is going up, so you never get the opportunity to top up before the rise! In one letter before xmas, they predicted the postal strikes might cause a delay, which it seems it did (13 days). Is funny that none of my other mail was affected so adversely.0 -
Kelsapoppy - we are the other side of the M4 and the last Calor price was 42p so given the previous post you should be able to save quite a bit.
My understanding is also that the new supplier buys the tank of the old supplier - there are several other posts in this thread discussing that issue.
Ring a couple of alternatives and they will soon tell you and please post back here if you succeed in getting a much better deal.0 -
extra fuels 41.06 ppl and my price alters 1st of every month either up or down, and they cover the full uk well pleased with them.0

Splot boy - I paid 37 for fill on 8 Jan. Got letter about price going up so got a delivery before it kicked in. Spoke to other users near me who were paying 42-46 when I changed over - big difference!!0

Hi, thank you all for your replies,
I have been phoning around, Calor offered me 38.5p but even better than that was Countrywide at 34p, also they will fit a new tank at no extra charge, just incase mine is faulty, only down side it will take between 20-28 days to complete the switch over, but the time scale would have been the same even if i kept the tank from BP as they would have still had to purchase it,
anyway i phoned BP to tell them i was switching suppliers, they asked if i would like to speak to customer service to see if they could lower my price, i told them not to bother as they had ripped me off for long enough, i also asked them if they had ever serviced my tank in the last 8-9 years, they told me i was due for my first service in year 10, they said the delivery driver looks over the tank whilst making a delivery, i explained how much gas i had used since dec09, the reply was "well you must have used it, most people use 23-25 ltrs a day in the winter".
I am now using bottled gas till the switch is made, at £45+vat a bottle its not cheep, but i would rather suffer that than buy another droplet from BP.
Many thanks to you all.0 -
Hi all, I have owned my house for 3 years but have only lived in it for 4 months. Bp ownes my tank and they have benn here since before I owned it, but as I wasnt living in the property they did not charge me rental on the tank. I purchased gas on the 1 week december 09 for the 1st time at 26.5ppl plus VAT. Sounds cheap form what I rad above.
I have had to reorder last week and they charge me 34.5ppl plus VAT now. Thats a big price increase. Is this still a good price or should I look around?
