Hi all
how are you all doing?! I have loved doing the grocery challenge, albeit on occassions mr t has said 'why are you buying the cheapo beans?...you can really taste the difference between cheapo and expensive?!.:rotfl:  ..........I find it really good to keep a track of what we spend eachmonth and try to stick to it with spiralling other costs. Please keep us at £250 but mr t has his birthday this month so got visitors coming 1 for 2 weeks and 2 for a weekend, so I reckon I will go over so let's see how we do. 1st shop of the month today was £57.57 with voucher from paper;) £52.57:D so hoping to carry on like that. Last month was the first time I was actually under budget by £1.50 odd, so there is hope for this month:rotfl:
all the best for july

I have decided that the £60.18p I spent on the 30th June can be included in the July budget as thats when it will be eaten. I have been to Aldi today for the first time since it was opened over a year ago and I was very impressed. Anyhow I spent another £10.02p bringing my total to £70.28p and leaving me with £129.80p for the rest of the month. Keeping an eye on the grocery budget has really opened my eyes to the fact that a lot of the money I was spending in supermarkets was actually personal spending for me so I have a seperate budget for that now. I kind of think that it will be the personal spending budget that gets blown rather than the grocery one but at least I am now more aware of where the money is going.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

I did try my local co-op but the didn't have any. It's only a small one so maybe that's why. The biggest supermarket near me is Asda but for some reason it's closed in the evenings despite having a 24 hour sign outside. I'll try there on Saturday, though they didn't have it last weekend when they left it out of my delivery. If they don't have it, I'll try it with coconut - I found a recipe for lemon and coconut muffins so the combination does seem to exist.
I brought some whoopsied poppy seeds (10p) in asda on monday, as i to fancied lemon and poppy seed muffins.

DH spent yesterday and today- not sure how much he spent today but when I picked up DS at 3 he proudly told me he'd had prawns for lunch  .
There are 2 tubs of sandwich fillers in the fridge at £2.80 for 2 and he bought bread. I'll beat it out of him later!
Got my washing on the line although it's still threatening rain so I'll have to watch it.
The moussaka recipe sounds yum so I've got out the lamb mince from the freezer (woopsied in Tesco). I've got some potatoes to use up so I may need to get cheese but have everything else in.
The bananas in the fruit bowl are on the turn so I'll make banana and raisin loaf tomorrow if I can find my recipe book.
Hope everyone's OK. Hi folks,
Well have spent £15.55 today in Asda, used some coupons to bring total down, but this shop included sunday beef joint (50p a lb I think- £2.63 for a piece enough for 2 and a bit servings) 2 x 50p mince (made a chilli for dinner tonight) pop, clementines and baking ingredients. Have made some DELICIOUS short bread. The recipe (for anyone interested is as follows:
4 oz sugar (already had this)
8 oz butter (I used a pack of smart price for 85p)
12 oz flour (35p)
Melt fat (1 min in micro) add dry ingredients and mix. pat down into greased flat baking tray.Bake for 50 min on gas 3 or 160c (my oven took 1hr 10min)
Not mega cheap, but a nice treat and I have enough flour to make about 5 more cakes.
SFG x
PS in best this week (8th July dated) there are £1.50 worth of coupons. The mag costs 85p0 -
Afternoon Everyone! On baking can anyone give me advice on where to go to get grains and seeds for putting into the BM during bread making? Mr T has small bags of individual ones but if you buy a few it works out quite expensive so was wondering if anyone had seen a mixed bag. Many thanks.
Hi
pink_princess wrote: »Hi determindtosticktothis. I buy mine at the food weighouse if you have one of these near you It means i just have to buy a handful of each at a time and its less packaging to recycle.:T I know its a touch more per 100g(3p on mr s price) but it saves buying a big bag of each. Plus i can try things cheaply without waste if we dislike it. HTH
Hi guys,
I am sure that you can get these type of things from the small asian type shops - I know in Basildon that we have a chinese shop in the galleries of our local shopping centre and they sell spices and stuff that you can buy in small quantities quite cheaply. Hi I would like to change my target to £160 for July. I am basing this on stretching myself using some of weezls 50p a day challenge recipes i used last month.
This is to feed 2 adults, 3year old , 8 month old 2 cats and includes some baby milk + toiletries/cleaning etc.
Going to be fun.

Well I made this on Sunday. Kids don't like it, I don't like choc cake in general (choc yes! choc cake no) and DH doesn't really do cake at all.....
Three slices from a large cake have gone. Any ideas what I can do with the rest? I really don't want to throw it away :-( Can I rehash it with something - can't think of any ideas cos I don't like choc cakes/ puddings myself! Am happy to cut it and shove in freezer in meantime
