Hubby complian tonight about having to cut the H M Bread.

would somone please kindly give me recipes for twinks hobnobs, banana cake and the weetabix cake, i would love to make these.

    Hi Karen,

I slice my bread up once cooked and then put it in a bag so they can help themselves - it's easier to do in one go plus I don't end up loosing half a loaf on one sitting when hubby decides to do a door stop and jam! :D

All the recipes you mentioned are on page one of this thread - ANGELNIKKI has done a fantastic job of putting links to them all on there, so we can all find them easily - by the way, I 100% recommend the banana & lemon drizzle cake - scrummy:D :D

Mumzy, I don't buy papers either, but if you check out the coupon thread and the saving is more than the cost of the paper might be worth it to get one now and again (check coupon is in there first though). Also, you could ask friends/neighbours if they have a paper they don't want or as a last resort, make friends with your local newsagent and they may sell you one cheap or even give it to you if there are any left at the end of the day? (well, worth a try? )

This must be a first (and no doubt last ) - doing my online shop and trying to get to £50 so I can get 5p off fuel...but I can't find anything to buy???? Should I just leave it where it is (about £32) or buy something to make up the extra £18?

Oh, for the people who asked for a couple of recipes from me - they are all stored on my other computer, which isn't up and running at the moment, but i will try and sort them out for you in the next couple of days :)

Hi Blairweech, I know this is cheating, but every penny saved eh! - what about buying a bigger item to make up the £18 and maybe taking it back later?
If you're not happy with doing that, what about getting something towards a birthday present or christmas present to make up the money? At least then you will not be buying just for the sake of it and will still be using the item?

    Denise

I've broken into my shiny new budget and spent £8.62:D Shouldnt need to spend anything else til sunday hopefully, so a good start to the challenge. Got some nice strawberries half price, some reduced peppered ham and boursin for hubbys rolls, potatoes for tomorrows dinner, icing sugar for iced buns and ice cream for LO as she was very good on our 2hr walk to the shops and back:o Trying not to use the car and it was a lovely day, however she is only 4 and maybe i was a bit ambitious:confused:

Then off to Bath for weekend to stay with friends, got wine already but need a trip to Tesco for beer and to use 5p off/litre petrol for the trip! Am planning to take some baking with me but we will probably then spend a bit on food once we are there, am going to include that in Challenge as I did last month.

Still going well using up Freezer supplies, tonight we are having Spag Bol, using 2 batches of sauce already made in the Freezer and it was bulked out with oats to make it go further so very MSE. Having HM Coleslaw with it and Garlic Bread found at the bottom of freezer.

Tomorrow DD1 has friends coming over, feeding 6 girls in total so making a Meat Lasagne with Mince out of the Freezer for the Meat Eaters and a Veggie Lasagne for her Vegetarian friend using a large Aubergine from Lidls, mushrooms, carrots etc that I already have in. I shall serve that with HM Coleslaw, HM Potato Salad and shall make some more of those lovely Garlic Dough Balls - think that recipe was originally from Mandy_Moo_1 and they were a real hit here when I first made them so hope DD1's friends like them too.

Hasn't rained here yet although it is forecast, if it doesn't rain then I shall have to get the hose out as everything looking a bit droopy after the baking heat yesterday. Enjoy the rest of the day.;)

Oh and a baking query from a newbie...

The new diabetic cookbook I've got has some nice recipes in it and I want to try the one for lemon and poppy seed muffins. Except I can't get hold of any poppy seeds! Asda, Tesco, Co-op, and Sainsbury's don't have any. Can I use dessicated coconut instead? I know it won't have the same flavour but will it kill it?

Are you sure they don't have any? I got my poppy seeds from MrA, but it took me absolutly ages to find them and they were on the very bottom shelf in the cooking aisle - I would imagine it would be OK to just leave them out rather than adding coconut, but it does sound nice with too  . Sorry, not much help there.

  • We've done our first big shop of the month. Will update my sig in a mo. Going to do some batch cooking later. Need some cakes for lunchboxes and I've taken some mince out of the freezer so I'll make a big chilli and then freeze it in portions for the days that we are in a mad rush and I don't want to cook. Just about managing to keep up with the thread.........:o

    Hi all,

Finally managed to catch up with all the posts - boy, you guys have been busy, mind with over 300 people reading this thread, no wonder! :j

Not been myself these last few days - think it's been a mixture of stressing over new job (not in a bad way, think I've just got 'over excited'), new glasses that are giving me headaches (got to go back this morning) and hayfever, so basically that's my excuse for 2 takeaways and overspending this week.....

Still back on track now - have just tidied up the whole house as it really needed doing - DS still to do his room when he gets home (his tidying consists of putting it all under his bed! ) and still to sort out the rest of paperwork on my desk so that I can actually get some work done on it! Really need to go shopping as absolutely nothing in - not an exaggeration, really do have next to nothing in - no sugar, coffee, salad stuff, ham, pickle, etc, have quite a few meals in the freezer from cooking before, but need some lunch essentials and if I'm working from home for the next couple of days, definitely need some tea, coffee & sugar to keep me going... :rotfl:

DS has Karate tonight, so another £4 to add later and will have to take DD on a driving lesson later too, so will need to put in diesel - it never ends!

Just stopped raining again here, but still really grey out - was going to do loads of washing today, but just the one as can't get it dry on airer otherwise. :(

Have a great day today despite the weather, take care,
    Den x
