  • On target with the budget, which I'm pleased about for my first month. The freezer inventory has been really helpful but my inability to walk past a bargain hasn't. Once agin the fridge is full of MrT whoopsed stuff ( msotly fruit) I do well with F+V whoopsies there but rarely any meat. Got a nice bit of salmon tonight for 40p so am happy with that.

Had one of those horrible days today when no matter what you cook it doesnt work out. So tea was edible but only just, my muffins are dry and my rhubarb pastries look unappetsing and you cant taste the elderflower cordial. very cross with myself, I'm usually a fair cook :-(.
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.

What channel are you watching it on Denise? DD is a huge fan, as are Mum and Dad (The only reason they watch it is because Ducky went to Edinburgh Medical School!) We've been watching it on FX, but getting confused as they are showing 2 different series. I also watch on Channel 5. I'm also a Gibbs fan. DiNozzo just winds me up ;)

Same here, FX is showing the first series at the mo, as I know Kate is only in the first series, but I think they show the newer one on Five (series 2 I think as Gibbs left at the end of that) there are 6 series in all but like you, I get very confused - DiNozzo makes me laugh, specially when Gibbs is about, but it is good... Sorry to go off topic guys, back on next time, promise. x

Can't believe I am £80 over budget    . Am doing things differently next month (as of Friday) so am going to split things up a bit to make sure I come in on budget next month AND still have stuff in the cupboards - they were so bare until I shopped today.... Hey ho, at least I know where it went (some had to get a 2 berth tent for DS to go away tomorrow - no seperate gifts/treats budget - one of the things I may change...)

Evening everyone - if there's anyone still up.

Spent £12.50 in Mr A today on fruit, veg, coleslaw. Also bought a pot of organic natural yoghurt and some organic milk. Plan to try making my own yogs over the weekend.

I've also had to fill up with petrol as I need to take woofa to Reading for rehab class tomorrow, then Sunday to Reading again to meet up with friends for lunch and then again next week to see other friends. Don't often do this amount of travelling so it'll make a dent in the funds, but hopefully can use some of the money I'm starting to save on food.

Made quiche yesterday, had half with salad and new potatoes from the garden, had a quarter tonight with courgettes (hg) and cauliflower. Rest will do for lunch tomorrow. DD suggested I part bake it another time and freeze in portions. Has anyone tried this? How long do you have to cook it so that it's just set enough to slice? GS2 coming to stay over tomorrow - he's requested lasagne. Looking forward to seeing him and to the lasagne - haven't had this for ages.

Thanks to OrkneyStar for telling me how to edit.

Angelnikki - when do we need to let you know our figure for August? I'd like to get as close as possible to the 1st when my next GC will start. Thanks for sorting everything for us.

    What does MOC mean?

    Have a peaceful night everyone.

    Jan GC £100/64.20/20.91 (£14.89 left)

Hi Gillaman, I'm still up, went to go to bed a while back but got waylaid (unusual on here??? NOT!)

Anyway, I'm not angelnikki, but just to let you know, basically you can run your GC whenever you want - so if you want to declare on the first after finishing on the 31st that's fine - word of warning - still post your July figures and stuff on here, but go over to the August post as soon as you see it, as it grows FRIGHTENINGLY quickly  in the beginning so you will find it really hard to catch up if you leave it . Just declare your total in Bold Red and your new challenge the same way, that way it is picked up easier(may be a good idea to do it in alarger size too...)

    MOC means "Money Off Coupons".

Hope that helps, I'm really going to bed now, have a stinking headache so need to get some sleep,
    Den x

Willow has fleas! Darn it. I checked her for flea dirt yesterday too but I was on the phone talking to my sister and I saw one crawling into her white patches.
This was only 2 hours ago so I did the MSE thing and googled it. Then washed her in the bath with a gentle shampoo (baby) and combed her with a nit comb. She was soooo good! Only found 3 so lets hope it was caught early enough to not be too much of a problem. Just need to pull everything out and hoover behind/under it for the next few days.
DD has also had headlice so we've been nit combing her and us too (different comb). None of us (fingers crossed) seem to have got any. Tomorrow after school I'll get the straighteners on her hair (dd not willow!) and kill off any remaining blighters!
Ended up being a NSD as I found a recipe for chocolate courgette cake by Jane Baxter. Deeeeelish! Was a bit wet but couldn't tell whether or not it was a bad thing- got MiL and DH to try it too- none of us could decide if it was meant to be like that or if it was a problem. Ended up putting it back in the oven for a while on a really low heat to dry it out more and see if it made it better or worse. Heck if it's not so nice then I'll just pour custard on it!
Bed now as I'm exhausted though. Night night everyone.

  • Hello,

Well I reached my goal of 190 for July with 0.30p to spare!!!!!Hooray! It was a challenge this past week, but I did it! I think the biggest thing for me is buying lots of food for when company comes to visit. I spend a fortune on nice food for company. I think I need to find more thrifty ways of feeding company. I'll try for 185 for August.

    Morning everyone,

Busy day today for me, I AM going to work as need to earn the pennies  - hard when you've got no-one to nag you like you do in a job - so if you see me chatting on here, please feel free to nag me (might have to PM me so we don't deter from the thread as I can see me needing LOADS of nagging - I hate paperwork! :D:D:D )

Been busy so far, had DS up as he didn't do his jobs last night so punishment was up early today to finish them (won't to that again will he! - ohh, I'm a horrible mother :p ) So he loaded the dishwasher and washed down the patio from the dogs - not a lot, but it was his jobs and he hates getting up early - he's back in bed now but I can hear him on the computer so it won't hurt him.

I have cleaned all the kitchen down, surfaces, walls, floors, etc, then the lounge and the hall, stairs & landing - dogs just make a mess everywhere - dirt and hair mess I mean, not other mess  !

Need to clean the kitchen windows and that's me done for the morning - shower and dressed then for BL advisor. MUST be a NSD for me today as we are totally skint - have been using money from Diesel budget this month to get us through, lucky there was some left! Can't wait till Friday and a shiny new budget - This evening hoping to do meal plans and shopping list ready to re-fill the cupboards - Old mother hubbard had nothing on me!
