Good or poor deal?
Do any of you mortgage whizz kids know if this is a good or bad deal? I would like a fixed rate as I prefer to know what I will have to pay out over the next 5 or so years. I'm afraid of more rises in rates. I am at present on a variable rate with a 'big lender'. They have offered me a choice of 3 fixed deals - 2 years,…

Advice on surrendering endowment please
Hi everybody, I am looking for advice on what to do about my endowment policy. i took out a ten year interest-only mortgage and endowment policy in 1996. Like everybody else, i guess, my endowment has not performed as well as expected :( :( :( . In may 2003, I changed my mortgage to a repayment type and carried on with the…

ALWAYS REMORGE WITH NEW LENDERS
I find If you plan to borrow more money on your existing home, its best to Remortgage every time to a new lender. Most existing lenders appeal to the new customer, but not their existing ones. ('HALIFAX' BEING ONE EXAMPLE) Try ringing as you, then again posing as a new customer. Add the loan to the morgtage, but They'll…

Mortgage Vs Rent
I had a trawl through the site and could find nothing on this one. I currently pay an interest only mortgage of 140K. I have 17 yrs left. I am 48yrs old and its a bit of a struggle on my income. I'm thinking of selling and renting instead. Renting would not save a great deal in cash out but at least I'd not be going red…

Euro mortgage?
I'm trying to find a lender that will lend in Euros with my UK house as security. Don't worry, I'm not completely barmy just thinking laterally. I am well aware of the currency risks. Anyone know of such a lender - all the articles I can find suggest L & C but a Euro product isn't mentioned on their website.

Mortgage repayment mess
Folks :- The situation I've now found myself in is that I have an offset mortgage for £65000 with FirstDirect with an unexciting variable interest rate. I got here via a pension mortgage, then PEPs and ISAs being used to repay the mortgage, until I moved house and got fed up / cold feet over these funny repayment vehicles.…

Buying a council property

We have made several modifications and improvements to the building (with the consent of the council) and have decided that the time is right to buy rather than rent. Can anyone shed any light on our situation?…

Endowment Letters
Are companies still supposed to be sending out the red amber and green letters about endowment prospects? If so, I haven't had one from Prudential yet.

I need to face up to my endowment!
I have a 25 year with-profits L & G policy. I have been undecided as to what to do with it for some time. I have been unable to get any company to even offer to buy it off me. However, it is projected to have a massive shortfall, and I have already converted the difference to a repayment mortgage. Now I'm wondering whether…

Remortgage - is this a good deal?
I've been paying a fixed rate of 6.75% for 5 years, which has obviously been a poor deal. The penalty period ends in October, and I'd like to book something soon, in case rates rise again. I've seen a mortgage with Coventry BS, which is offering 4.8% on a variable rate which is guaranteed not to go higher than their SVR…
