Solar Newbie needing help with generation meter reading!
We have just purchased a house with a solar PV installation and I am trying to transfer the FiT payments into my name. It is feeling very daunting! My main problem at the moment (although I am struggling to get my head around it in general!) is reading the generation meter to give British Gas a reading. It is a Rayleigh…

Looking for Solar PV Supplier / installer reccommendations
Hi all. Looking to get some silicon on my roof, possibly some lead or lithium under the stairs, and so looking for any information regarding reputable, reliable, and reasonable installers for such. Roof has two major segments, SE and NE facing (guessing the NE isn't so great) and whilst I'm looking to get as much power as…

With gas boilers potentially being banned in new homes from 2025, should we look at alternatives now
We need to replace our boiler ASAP and I'm wondering if it's worth looking at heat/air pumps? They're very expensive on the up front cost but it looks like in the (very) long run the savings make it worthwhile? I'm a bit concerned about the work involved though, and the physical space it uses. Any thoughts please? Thanks

Solar Equity Release
Hi All, Just thought I would share my experience .... Like others I am sure, most of the mail I get that has anything relating to solar panels goes straight in the bin. It’s normally offering a free health check on the system recently. One correspondence recently though caught my eye as it was from Solar Equity Release and…

Maybe UK govt are not crazy
So, picking up on a couple of things that joefizz has mentioned in discussions. Big problems! First, that a very high proportion of plug-in electric hybrids subsidised by the government (by a variety of means) have in fact never been plugged in, and therefore are worse for the environment than if the subsidy had never been…

Recommendations for Energy Performance Certificate for RHI payments
Morning all. We have just more or less completed a major rebuild / renovation on our house, and as part of this installed a solar thermal system which has just been signed off (we have the Micro Generation Certificate). We understand now we have to get a Energy Performance Certificate before we can apply for RHI - there…

Current situation with PV winter 2019?
We're about to build a 11x7m single storey log cabin in our garden with a dedicated electrical supply (already in). It has a low pitched roof, maybe 20 degrees and the cabin is South facing though only one half of the roof is likely to get good sun due to trees. I'd been told there is no assistance/incentive for installing…

Another green day in Lincolnshire :) :) :)
Morning all, Having charged the battery for my electric bicycle yesterday using solar power while the sun was out, I'm about to go out and collect some windfall apples to make blackberry and apple jam. I'm aiming to get back while the sun's still out so I can use more solar power for the electric hob to make the jam. All…

Solar and smart meters
Hi, In the past I've read a few reports of problems with smart meters when the house has solar panels. Are there still any downsides to installing a smart meter? I've got a 4 kW PV system with one of the oldest FIT tariffs, with an Immersun diverter and ASHP. I already have an emonPi system so i can monitor my own…

Wattson Display Unit
I think that my Wattson display unit is on the way out. I measure 16 volts DC at this power supply when it is not under load. There are internal batteries which look like a pack of five AA batteries that are encapsulated in plastic. I surmise that the batteries are probably at fault. Has anyone else had any problems? Are…

Self Install Solar PV
As I have a loft conversion looming I'm considering doing a small self install PV system whilst we have scaffolding up and easy roof access. 7 x ~300W panels Growatt 2500 Inverter Fastensol Mount System Current meter is old analogue type and will possibly run backwards under export conditions. If/when this is changed I…

BG FIT PAYMENTS cheque or BACS
Whereas other providers have been paying their FIT payments by BACS British Gas still sends out cheques at cost and inconvenience to their clients and themselves. I was told by BG several years ago that a change to BACS was "imminent" but still nothing on the horizon. One would think Centrica might be interested to improve…

Are solar PV installer proposals and quotes intentionally lacking in transparency and detail?
Never having had solar before, and not knowing too much about the tech at the time, when I’ve gone through the paperwork for our system, the solar installation quotes (from five different installers) seem to lack transparency and specificity. Not a single quote I received stated the size of the inverter they’d install or…

Help - Advice needed on solar PV quote
Hi I am looking to get a solar pv system installed on the roof of my house and have received my first quote. Whilst I await quotes from another couple of installers I would be immensely grateful if I could get your opinion on the equipment and price in the first quote. Just as a bit of background the roof is pitched at…
