Hello ppl,

Looking for some help and advice here.

I have recently moved house within MK and would like to get Solar Panels fitted to my new house roof.

In my previous property, following recommendations from the Solar gurus over here (Thanks once again) I had them fitted by TP Solar, but they are no longer trading.

Having had the benefit of a flawlessly working solar PV system and the resulting savings, i have thought about going for it again.

My previous install was for a 3.84kW PV system consisting of 16 panels of Sharp ND-R240A2 facing South East with SMA 4000TL inverter, Geo II monitor and Solar iBoost. Think that had cost me around £5k in 2015.

Believe, technology has moved ahead and options have now increased (battery storage etc.), hence seeking your advice.

Current property has a south facing roof, but is not the usual inverted V shape, as the attached picture shows. https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipMtUcociu52gpePK_m4tJxDaz-jIFxqiwwRjnRA

So do you suggest, solar panels are even an option here? If yes, any suggestion on installers in the MK area and what are the good options lately?

Thanks in advance,
CT

The photo link you provided doesn't work for me.

Feed in tariffs are no longer available on new installations so the savings (or rather earnings) will no longer be as great. This also means south-west or south-east facing roofs may now be more advantageous than south-facing ones.

Panels generating 300W or more are now widely available, as compared with the presumably 240W ones you previously had. This might mean a reasonably sized system could be fitted into an unusual roof space.

£5k might now get you rather more than a 4kWp solution, subject to DNO approval.

The cost of battery solutions continues to fall, it's worth reading the various threads about this and seeing how you feel about an investment that may or may not break even in a reasonable time. Even with Grid Services discounts available from some, a decent size battery system would still add several thousands of extra cost on top of the price of solar panels.
7.25 kWp PV system (4.1kW WSW & 3.15kW ENE), Solis inverter, myenergi eddi & harvi for energy diversion to immersion heater. myenergi hub for Virtual Power Plant demand-side response trial.
  • Thanks Hexane for your suggestions. Will keep these points in mind.

The search begins. I believe, even without the FiT incentive, the saving on Electricity will be sizeable for a large 4 bed detached house.

The roof is at a very slight South-East angle rather than parallel to South. Photo would have depicted much better.

Would you know, what is the best way for uploading the roof photo? It only allows me to add URLs, not images :(
