Liability for water damage
A main sewer belonging to Thames Water runs through our back garden. It is listed on the deed to the property, and when we bought the house one of the conditions of the freehold is that we allow Thames water access to the main for maintenance etc. We have had three cases of the foul drain in our garden overflowing during…

Should I get a water meter?
Hi, I am thinking about getting a water meter. My landlord is happy to have one fitted, but he seems to think it would mean paying a lot more for water? I am in a small 2 bed flat (2 people living here). The rateable value is £266, and for a year sewerage it comes to £310 and incoming water is around £109. The place is…

Water meter installation - how long?
My parents are having a new kitchen fitted on the 14 July and have an issue with the stopcock, which is at the bottom of a cupboard in the corner. As they are both elderly/disabled they'd rather have this moved somewhere accessible. My uncle has said he could do it (but he's generally a bit unreliable) and he suggested…

Why should I pay???
About a couple of months ago Thames Water were doing a check in our village, looking for leaks. The chap said he had detected a leak on my supply and reckoned it was on my side of the meter. A few weeks later another chap came out with his basic listening device and thought he had located the leak, near my kitchen…

Water bill !!!!-up
I recently received my annual water statement and was surprised to see that my monthly payments had been amended to £88! It seems that the water board decided to stop my direct debit payment last March so I've not been paying for ages. When I contacted them they very kindly agreed to lower the dd payment to something more…

Water Bills - Are they legal?!?
Hey, So the other day someone from Southern Water knocked the door and asked how long i'd occupied my flat for. Apparently there were quite a few properties in the area not on their books so they were going around catching up with everyone. I've received a bill dating back to Sept 06 for just shy of a grand! Surely it's…

Dead easy money saving if you are on a water meter
Hiya, I posted an earlier tip from my plumber - use a basin in the bathroom and the basin water collected to flush the loo instead of pulling the cistern handle (he also suggested loo flushing with water from a basin in the kitchen sink). Too add to this - it is just as easy to put a basin on the floor in the shower. It…
