Water Meter huge rise - confused?

So im a single person in a one bed flat and use very little water (I work long hospital shifts so im hardly at home). When I started paying my payment plan I think it was something like £5 a month, then when they figured out what I used it dropped to under £3 a month (great stuff). Now, ive had my new payment plan book and its just under £10 a month!? If anything, ive decreased my water usage. Im due a bill next month but what do people think? Is this kind of rise usual? I dont think £10 a month is terrible as im sure id be paying a lot more if I didnt have a meter, I just can't figure out how the bill has tripled.

Its probably due to a price increase. Mines got from £15 a mth to £50!

You were possibly in credit when your payment dropped to £3 per month.

I'd have a look at your next bill and then maybe 'phone them to get an accurate payment.

Do you really think that your water company has increased its prices by 330% ?

If you are paying by DD you have almost certainly been underpaying and the water company has increased the amount by a hefty percentage:-
    a. So you are paying for what you are actually using
    b. To recover what you owe them.

£3 a month would'nt cover the standing charge without water.

Have a look at your bills it will tell you how many units you are using.

    I used 6 cubic metres between 11 June 2007 and 10 December 2007 which cost £6.90.
    Water standing charge was £10.44.
    Used water cost £4.73.
Used water standing charge was £5.50.
    Measured drainage was £12.84.

That comes to a grand total of £40.41 which divided into six months would have been £6.73 however I was in credit by a few pence so that was clear.

Since then ive paid £12-15 and my meter reading is currently 5 cubic metres more than at dec. So even if the prices have increased by 6% or whatever it is, the bill should only be £35ish (after taking away what ive paid already) and therefore £6 a month.

Guess i'll have to wait for the bill!

I didnt say all of it was, sorry if you thought I implied that!

But I now paying standing charges on both water and waste water, my price per unit as gone up by 60p since I moved in 19 mths ago and of course the water drainage charge has gone up. Just saying prices rises exist so could be why peoples bills go up

But the rises this year have been approx 5%. Bills going up is not the same as DDs going up.

If people's DDs rise by large amounts e.g. 10% or more it is because they had set the DD incorrectly before, or they have used more water.

Conversly if their DD reduces, it is not because the metered tariff has reduced.
