Since around July/August time my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 PC has not been notifying of new Important updates, as it used to do, by putting the icon in the tray. Linux: certificate untrusted but only on Chrome
I've tried to access online banking via Chrome on Ubuntu but it thinks that the secure socket layer has been compromised. This doesn't happen on Firefox, but could this be that Firefox's security is so lax that it missed it?

hotmail / outlook / outlook light
Halfway through last year I was forcibly switched from hotmail to outlook. Hated it. Slow slow slow! After some time, I discovered Outlook Light - a cut-down version that suits me fine and loads/runs much faster. Great. I got used to it. Now suddenly when I open outlook I'm back to the ghastly, slow 'full' version with all…

Freeware Windows Backup Software
Hi Can anyone recommend a free backup program for a non techie user. It needs to be simple, need as few clicks as possible, and as little techie jargon as possible. Just spent a few hours recovering a neighbour's PC with a failed hard drive, they never made a backup of anything so it was a bit of a nightmare. I've told…

I've been asked to upgrade the hard drive in a relative's laptop. Sophos antivirus for Windows - any experience?
Anybody have any experience using Sophos's free antivirus for Windows? I've been using Avast for a while now (AVG before) and slowly getting more and more fed up with it as more and more bloatware is added. Sophos have a pretty good name in the security business, just wondering how their antivirus performs.

Portable SSD
I recently bought a 240GB SSD and a USB3.0 caddy to put the drive in. Connecting it up to various windows machines the drive is just recognised as a USB 3.0 device in the device list, but not as a storage device. Connecting it to Macs, the Macs instantly recognised what the device was and it works fine. My preference is to…
