Moving abroad - Tax implications?
I am shortly moving to Sweden (EU) and will have some money to transfer there from the sale of my house here. It will be going into my own Swedish bank account and some will be used to pay for property there, the rest probably held in a savings account. Does anyone know if there is a limit to how much one can transfer…

Don't understand ISA interest given
I have just over £17,000 in a 2 year Santander 123 Fixed rate ISA, taken out last year with interest 2.30% however, on receiving account summary it is only showing 5th April - £24.49 & 2nd May -£29.86 so total of only £54.35 interest, surely this is incorrect.?

Cheapest platform for holding investment trusts
I would like to buy into ITs within a ISA wrapper next tax year. I'll invest about 10-15k (rest will be in funds) within the first few months and reinvest all dividends. Doing my own research, I think a % fee broker would be cheapest for me and, using monevator's broker comparison table, I've narrowed down the choice of…

Vanguard Founder attacks ETFs
Thats the story in the FT. As I understand it, Jack Bogle says that investors are trading ETFs far more than they ever did funds. This huge volume of trading is a zero sum game for investors that only benefits the commission takers. But he concedes that ETFs* are fine for those of us who don't trade often.:) *PS: Except…

Assessing funds
Hello, I have had a couple of funds for several years, and have very little idea as to whether they have done well or not. If I look on bestinvest, fund A has returned the following cumulative performance: 6m - 2.84 1y - 0.62 3y - 27.74 5y - 30.33 This is a European (ex UK) fund. Fund B returned the following: 6m - 5.76 1y…

Investing in foreign countries
Hi everyone, I am interested in investing abroad, but I am a British citizen with no ties to other countries or property there, and a middle income earner, so don't have billions of pounds in wealth to open a factory or something. I am interested in this from both a financial and economic perspective. I want my investment…

Fortress Bonds
There are adverts in the papers for "Fortress Bonds" from a company called Castle Trust offering good rates (e.g. 3.25% for three years) and with an apparent £50K FSCS protection. Does anyone know why does MSE not list such bonds in their tables or comment on their financial attraction?

Benefitting from shares in euros
I work for an Italian owned company and will shortly be receiving approx euro56,000 in shares. They will sell these for me and put the money in sterling into my Uk current account where my salary is paid. Thoughts on eToro
What are people's thoughts on eToro. It seems so simple that you can invest $100 and copy a top traders moves to gain growth without doing any real work. I know this means taking losses with them too, but there are some legit users that have impressive gain every single month. Is this too good to be true? Would like to…

Saving for godchild
Hi there, looking for some advice on saving for my godson. I'd like to be able to deposit on birthdays/ Christmas/ ad hoc and if possible do it as a surprise for the parents too. I'd liked the idea of premium bonds but it has to be a parent/guardian and £100 minimum. Is there some other form of bond I can do for him? Or…

The 85k guarantee-enough to protect ISA accumulation?
If money is deposited in a bank or building society, and the provider goes down the pan, up to (a maximum) 85K is protected. So far so go. With the nature of how ISAs function-a previous year`s subscription can be added to the new ISA each year (every year). With the cash ISA limit now at 15k and rising, it would not take…

Real 'real time' share price
Is there a site that provides actual real time prices for free or is this a paid-for service only? Google Finance, Investing.com, HL etc. all provide 'real time streaming' but all show a different price when viewed together at the same time. Just wondered if any one of the free services were closer to real time than the…

New ISA account today
Hi, Just a quick question. So I don't have any ISA accounts at the minute, or haven't had any this financial year, although I do have £3500 in a normal savings account. If I open an ISA account today, and load all of the money into the account, would I get a whole years interest on it in April, or am I being too hopeful?…
