Junior Isa/CTFs
I have 3 children, the latest born in December 2011. The older 2 benefitted from the first child trust fund cheque of £250 which I invested in a stock based CTF with The Derbyshire. I put a monthly amount into their funds by DD. The youngest has of course not benefitted from this but I understand the government have now…

Transferring old ISA
Hi, I am sure this has been asked before and Martin keeps on about transferring ISAs to get the best deal. I have a 2007/8 ISA worth £5340 which now has bad returns. If I move it before the end of this tax year and transfer to another provider with a better rate, can I also invest a further £5340 with another ISA provider?…

To keep or close accounts re carpet bagging
My kids have various children's savings accounts which we opened at different times when interest rates were good and then moved their money accordingly. I am trying to decide whether to close the old account which still have a little cash in or leave them open in case of a payout in the future. They are Saffron Walden…

I want to save £100 each month for 15-20 years without withdrawing from the investment on behalf of my child, hoping to earn as much as possible for him. I have family in Germany, England, U.A.E, Poland, Iceland, America and Switzerland. From these countries which would be the best to invest in (bank account, savings…

best account where i can't withdraw my money?
Hi all, I'm not very good with money. I'm an ex bankrupt with a small income and we've got 3 children, so I'm generally spending more than i save. I want to build up a deposit for a rented house in case our landlord ever sells (it has happened to us twice before so I'd like to be prepared). I need to build up a minimum…

Life Insurance Endowment help
Hello I wasn't sure where to post this (Insurance, savings, endowments??) so feel free to move it! I have a very small life insurance endowment that I took out nearly 20 years ago. It wasn't alongside a mortgage but instead taken out to give my daughter some money when she was 21. Originally it was with Refuge Assurance…

First Direct Options
Hi, This is my first post. I have 3 bank accounts, one with HSBC which I opened when I was 16 (7 years ago), one with Lloyds TSB opened in Oct 2011 and First Direct opened a few days ago. I opened the Lloyds one because of the good current account interest rates (2.96% if you keep more than 3 grand in there) and use this…

Tracker Funds and Income
I can see the merits of tracker funds thru lower costs but has anyone any thoughts as to whether a tracker should be used for income. Looking at trustnet the yields seems far lower on trackers than for actively managed funds.

Child Trust Fund error - should I accept the compensation?
Hi all. Can I get your advice. We recently moved our middle daughters child trust fund to Family Investments. They sent us documents for another child, complete with date of birth, full address, name of parent, total value of funds in account. I would expect that the family of the other child received our documents and…

Goodbye First Direct ISA
Hi Guys, Here are the new first direct e-ISA rates applicable from the 6th of April 12 to all e-ISA accounts, unfortunately, for me it is definitely bye-bye, as I can find a better rate easily, even on £40k+ savings. For new ISA savers, IMHO it would be better to keep their savings in a non-ISA account than doing it with…

S+S ISA - Should I change broker?
About 6 months ago I opened my first S+S ISA with Hargreaves and Lansdown. The only fund I have is the HSBC all share tracker. At the moment I'm paying £100 a month into this ISA with the intention of continuing to do so for the next 40 odd years. As I'm sure many of you know, H&L have introduced a £2 a month platform fee…

Dividends
I am thinking about buying some shares with a good dividend. A) How can I find out the dividend of FTSE 250 companies B) Am I right in thinking that there the P/E ratio is almost important? C) What is the easiest way of buying these? BTW I have about £4k to invest and I am thinking of buying the day after Greece defaults.

5 yr Bond
Hi all I put £4,000 in a 5 year savings bond for my son in Dec 2006 to help with University costs. He started Uni in Sept 2011 and the account matured in Dec 2011. The rate of interest was fixed at 3.25% AER. I have recently had his book updated ready for when he comes home at Easter but the interest is only £12.63. Could…
