To keep or close accounts re carpet bagging

My kids have various children's savings accounts which we opened at different times when interest rates were good and then moved their money accordingly. I am trying to decide whether to close the old account which still have a little cash in or leave them open in case of a payout in the future. They are

Saffron Walden Herts & Essex building society
Harpenden Building society
Nationwide Building Society

What do yo think?

  • I've still got loads of BS accounts that I opened years ago for the demutualisation payments. £100 in each. Had a few payouts, but I think those days are gone. Every now and again a BS gets taken over - no payout but I close the relevant account.

    Nobody knows if the days of payouts on takeover or whatever are gone but I suspect they are.

    All the recent mergers have been rescues by another name. No chance of payouts in the present climate, and none for many years to come.
