Child trust funds - are all stakeholders the same?
I am about to transfer my sons child trust fund into a stakeholder FTSE tracker fund, but I am somewhat confused... Provided that the fund tracks the same index (ie FTSE 100 or FTSE all share) and the charges are the same, will all funds perform equally, or can the growth somehow still vary depending on which provider you…

Nightmare trying to open a Harpenden Building society account.
I have been in the process of opening a mini-cash ISA with £3,600 at the Harpenden B-Soc. I sent the application off with a Barclays cheque, a certified copy of my passport and 2 x household bills. It has come back as they apparently need 2 x 'Group A' documents. They said I could get a copy of my driving licence…

stocks more turbulent now than in the past?
I've seen a number of posts on various threads that suggest we should be guided by the "fact" that we have a downturn every 5-7 years. I'm not so sure this is true if I use the FTSE history as a measure. From 1985 to 2000 (i.e 15 years) the FTSE made steady if erratic gains until declining into a low in 2003 recovering for…

New S&S ISA
Hi,I have an index tracker fund with M&G and recently asked myself why I didn't have it in an ISA wrapper, after querying this with M&G it turns out I have to sell my shares and then buy them back to be able to hold them in the ISA. Best card/savings account for a 16 year old....
My son was 16 last September and has had an Abbey savings account since he was a child, of which I am a trustee. He now really needs his own account where he can get his money out easier than having to get me to go with his payment book everytime. He is still at school, and will be for a while yet and doesn't work. Any…
