    not true - they are protected, but its by the Irish Government, rather than FSCS
  • Why has this come as a surprise? Surely we knew this since September?

    old news, and main headline of thread not true.
    You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

    As someone who correctly predicted the demise of the icelandic banks, albeit just a week befor they went under, my advice is to get your money out of irish Banks...NOW !!!! .... Give it 6 months & ireland will be in a similar position to Iceland ...& I doubt the Government will bail depositors a second time, as they did for Icesave.

    I managed to get my savings out of Kaupthing, but not icesave as it was a Fixed rate Bond, my comments may seem a little alarmist, but I lost a day of my life worrying about loseing a 4 figure sum, until Darling said he would stand behind u.k depositors, All i can say is that if i had money In an irish bank I would get it out, for peace of mind at the very least !! ...
