Best rate for £35k over 3 years
I have £35k that I do not need for 3 years. I can save a further £2.5k per month. My ISA is full for the year. I have noticed that Bradford and Bingley have a fixed bond at 7% (5.6% net). Can anyone suggest any other savings mechanism that would beat 5.6% after tax? Thank you in advance!

Would a fixed term account be suitable for me?
My boyfriend and I are saving for a mortgage. We're filling up our ISAs each month and then we "top up" our savings as and when we can in our regular savings accounts. Now I'm wondering if one of these fixed term jobbies would be any good for the top ups, but I don't know much about them. I'm thinking that once we have,…

Do I need to have investments as well as savings accounts?
Hey there- Do I need to have investments as well as savings accounts? Thanks to this board, I have identified and opened several savings accounts with high interest rates (6.5% plus). However, each time I go to a bank to open a savings account, I am continually badgered to make investments too. Being very risk-averse, I…

A & L Direct ISA 4 - severe backlog!
My first time on here and registered because I was so incensed by A & L attitude. I started the process of transferring an ISA to their Direct ISA 4. All went well and the previous bank sent me a closing statement dated 16th May and the cheque was sent to A & L on that day. No money in my new ISA last Thursday (5th June!)…

Simple savings better than Buy to Let now?
Hello all, Am I correct in thinking that, in the current economic climate, it would be better to put a lump sum of £125k into a high-rate savings account (e.g. Bradford/Bingley 7% Bond = 5.6% after tax) than investing it into a Buy to Let property (without any mortgage)? If my calcs are correct, to equal the interest…

A&L's premium saver
What does anyone reckon to the A&L premium saver account at 12% AER? I know you have to open a current acc. with them but is this a good saver acc. to go for and do the change? Is this the start of some competitive rates between the banks & is it better to sit tight for a while until more offers come out?

Teaser rates/ no interst in withdrawal month
Accounts with one or both the features mentioned in the title do not appeal to me . The former type does not because I do not want the hassle ( in 70s now) of changing account every so many months to chase the next teaser, and the second because a sudden need or two can soon make the choice a bad one. Where these days can…

Eastern Electricity
Hi MSEs, In 1993 I went to work abroad. My belongings, including valuable financial records, were distributed hurriedly – my Ex took some, some went into storage, etc. Although I knew I had bought shares in companies (as long term savings), I was not able to find the certificates until last year. I have tracked down most…
