£35,000 protection question
If say you have £10,000 in Halifax and £7,000 in Bank of Scotland and because they are under one bank which I think is called HBOS, would you still get all your money bank under the £35,000 scheme or would you only get one payout or either 7 or 10,000 pounds. I heard its only one payment from one institution.

Poor Investment
How is this for a poor investment? I recently found a Nationwide CashBuilder Share Pass Book that last saw the light of day in 1999. In December that year it was updated and contained £49.73. I’ve just taken it into the local branch, and in those intervening 8 years the total interest earned is £3.97. Damn, still can’t…

Birmingham Midshires - a good choice?
I'm considering opening up a BM account, but I'm concered about the amount I'd want to stash there (over 100k). As BM are one of the largest buy to let mortgage lenders, surely they will be the hardest hit if house prices drop? I understand that this is why they are offering such a good rate, but I'm interested in any…

Stealth cost of moving savings
As a newby to this forum, I don't know if this might be of any interest (sigh!) to other "Rate Tarts" out there but before I start chasing that extra fraction of a percentage of interest on my hard-earned savings, I first estimate how long it is likely to take for me to get back the interest the banking system deprives me…
