Dormant accounts

Options
Has anyone had their savings account put into 'dormancy'. without my knowledge an account was made dormant because I hadn't used it for a while. No objection to this but the interest went from 6.5 to 0.75!!! I have so far 'lost' three years interest. They will not tell me why dormant accounts cannot receive the original interest!!

  • if you do not use your account, it will become dormant. you need to go to the bank and fill dormant account form (i'd also provide some ID, such as D/L or passport). you should receive a cheque or transfef after few weeks.

all that is legal and before the account becomes dormant a letter is sent to you. if you do not reply to the letter it becomes dormant. if you havent received a letter due to change of address, it is your own faullt as you didnt change it.

A couple of years ago, Staffordshire Bldg. Soc. made one of my a/c.s dormant. They did not write to me and tell me of this. I had another a/c. with them that was active on a very regular basis and the first that I knew of the state of dormancy was when I requested a payment from them be paid into it. I was not penalised interest wise during the dormancy period.
