Portman accounts
I had a phone call from Nationwide today saying that they were transferring my ex-Portman account into a Nationwide account that earns less interest. This isn't really satisfactory considering it's the main chunk of my savings. They tried to give me the hard sell on their e-savings accounts, stating that they paid the same…

Opened 2 (self & OH) Direct Saver Accounts in December. There was supposed to be an incentive payment of £20ea. via Quidco. So far 1 account has been tracked but not validated - since January. A mate has opened an isa with abbey, but is very unimpressed so far with customer service and the delay in fully opening. He has deposited NO MONEY. Is he in his rights to open another isa elsewhere and effectively forget about the abbey one. Like I said, he hasn't put any money in it yet. Am I right in telling him, he can…

My partner's just received a letter from Halifax informing her that the 7% Regular Saver account opened back in November 2007 has been closed as it hasn't received funds of between £25 & £250 in the last month. They have transferred the funds to a Web Saver account and paid it a lower rate of interest. The account from…

Using a savings account to add interest to Cash ISA
Ok, well I've been having a think and I reckon I've worked out a way to maximise the amount of interest I would be paid from my ISA. The ISA pays 5.8% annually, so really I could have my money elsewhere for the majority of the year in a savings account which pays interest monthly etc... earning some extra interest. I know…
