Portman accounts

I had a phone call from Nationwide today saying that they were transferring my ex-Portman account into a Nationwide account that earns less interest. This isn't really satisfactory considering it's the main chunk of my savings.
They tried to give me the hard sell on their e-savings accounts, stating that they paid the same interest, but I'm not interested in online banking and I'm already aware that generally online accounts seem to have better interest rates anyway. However, the possible lack of security means that I really don't want to have my main savings in an online account.
Is anyone else in the same position? What accounts are you going for instead of the new Nationwide one?

I'd be tempted to let them transfer it.
Then there can be no issues of ownership when you immediately choose to move it elsewhere.
Ex-Portman accounts have provided a steady stream of dissatisfaction on MSE, as soon as anyone seeks to move their money, which is the name of the game here.
Think of the transfer as opening up 100s of new possibilities, which your last sentence indicates you want.
