Friends Provident shares
I got 956 FP shares when they demutualised and they have just started a dividend reinvestment plan. I'm not sure it's worth keeping them though - they are worth about £2K I guess and the dividends are returning about 2% per year. What would it cost me to sell - presumably a brokerage fee and any tax? I'm an HRT and have…

Redundant- best way forward financially?
I'll be redundant come 01/01/07. My notice ends then - currently on gardening leave! I'll then be 53 - was looking to retire at 60 anyway. But has come a bit early. I'm being positive and realistic. I suspect any future work I do will probably be unpaid which is ok with me. I was saving/investing looking towards financial…

Coop Windfall or not?
"LEEDS Co-op has announced that it is proposing to its members that the society should merge with the Rochdale-based United Co-operatives" I wonder if Leeds Coop members are entitled to a windfall payment, surely they must be it is only like Portman merging with Nationwide??

Premium Bond Shenanigans
I don't know if something dodgy is going on, or wether I'm just unlucky when it comes to keeping my money. It started with my notion that you only seem to get payments from the Bond meisters within the first 3-4 months and then very sporadic after that. So that was the plan, heartened by the 3.1% average payout, put down…

CHAPS vs BACS - Is it worth it? ***BETA Calculator Now Online***
As was being discussed in another thread, I have completed the development of a calculator that determines whether you would be better off using CHAPS or BACS for transferring money, based on the cost of CHAPS and interest that would be gained. The link to my calculator is http://chaps.kiltoxservices.net/ . It's in beta so…

NS&I Index Linked Tax free savings
I've read Martin's article on NS&I Premium Bonds, but was wondering if NS&I Index Linked savings were any good (currently inflation + 1.15% for 3 years) giving a return of 4.85% tax free. I'm a higher rate tax payer so based on my calculations these seem better than putting my money in a fixed rate bond such as Anglo…

Not the great train robbery or Brinks Mat but is it legal
As I understand it if parents give money to their child then the interest on that money is free of tax provided it does not exceed £100 per parent in each financial year. Any money given by a person other than the parents can earn interest tax free ( as long as it is within the nil rate band for tax i.e. In total the…
