Any idea which the best way to buy shares online, who is best for service and charges the least fees?

Martin's article recommends Hoodless Brennan and Halifax - HB for shares bought & sold when you want to and Halifax for shares bought using a monthly scheme.

lil_me, I use Selftrade. Their dealing charges are higher - £12.50 as against £7 - but the service is good and the research facility is excellent.
  • I was just looking on the forums to see get this info for myself. I just wanna buy a £100 or so of one particular stock for a bit of fun. Does this affect my choice? Or shall I just get my coat and read the article?
And if, you know, your history...

Halifax Sharebuilder is good for small purchases as the commission when buying is only £1.50, although when selling you pay £5-£12 depending on the size of the trade.

They keep the buying commission down by pooling trades so you're restricted to buying on certain days (several days each month).

They also have a very cheap ISA/PEP deal - only 25 pounds a year regardless of size.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
