Further savings advice needed please...

Hi folks

Despite being the worst time of the year to save with Christmas coming up and all, I have made it a real goal of mine to get the ball rolling with savings.

Step 1 has been achieved - The ISA. I've bunged £3k into a West Brom BS Fixed ISA at 5.40%. Not the top paying one on the market but reasonably competative and the branch is just around the corner. Plus the service was excellent.

I need advice on step 2. I only have about £150 left in my savings 'pot' after the ISA. Money is currently sitting in one of my spare bank accounts earning nothing. I'd like to set up a regular savings account. Could afford to pay about £30-£40 a month into it at the moment rising hopefully in the new year. I'd like to be able to open and operate the account from the high st so internet only accounts are out. Also i don't particulary want to have to open a bank account with the company to get the savings account thus ruling out Lloyds and A&L. Sounds like i'm a right fussy so and so doesn't it?!

The final part is step 3! I also need an instant access savings account. This will be primarily for putting lump sums of money that fall into my mits between now and April (work bonus, christmas money, ebay/auction sales etc). Whatever the amount is i will be transferring this into my new ISA in April. Again I would like this to be operated from the high st.

Thanks for any suggestions. Also any contructive criticism about my plans would be appreciated. I may be going about things completely the wrong way and if so, it would be nice to be told! :)

What do you have on your high street??

Yorkshire Building Society allows 1 withrawal a year on its 6.5% pa paying regular saver.

    Skipton/Principality/Scarborough/Abbey/Nottingham may also be suitable

How many withdrawals are you likely to want, if its more than one, youll probably be better with an easy access account.
  • Skipton's branch access 2 account is way ahead of other High Street instant access accounts @ 5.1% (includes 0.5% six month bonus).

    And you are lucky :)

Skipton BS, Parade, SUTTON COLDFIELD, West Midlands, B72 1PL

Their regular saver pays 5.3% and allows 1 withdrawal pa.

Cheers for that RI. Looked at Skipton's web site last night and was quite impressed. Plus as you say its right by me. :)

Tom188 - wouldn't be looking to withdraw from the regular saver at all. This would be running in conjuction with an instanst access abccount.
