Paying in cheques to a savings account
My daughter is looking for a savings account that she will be able to use to pay in cheques, paid to her by her daughter's nursery as a refund of fees for the free hours her daughter is intitled to. As she is a working mum she would prefer to have an account that she can manage online or by post. It seems that a cash ISA…

Interest Calculation
The best way to illustrate my question is with an example:- You deposit £10,000 in a savings account on 31 July 2005. Interest is paid annually, on 1 July. You withdraw the £10,000 on 31 January 2006. Would you get more interest on 1 July 2006 than you would on closing the account at 31 January 2006?

Highest interest non-regular saver
For the first time in years I have need of a savings account. :D A regular saver is no good for me - the only money I can save is from freelance work, not my main full-time employment so amounts are variable by month. A&L Overdraw? Im an idiot
To be honest, Ive never gone overdrawn before. I checked my account right now & saw I was £700 overdrawn. I immediately moved £2000 into the account from my A&L savings account. I had been charged two penalties of £25.00 for going over. I called A&L, & they were able to remove "50%" of the penalty, or £25.00, because the…

Hi I have a couple of questions I'm hoping one of you expert savers can help me with firstly, how is interest calculated? is it based on the actual number of days the money resides in the account in a given month? Or is it that as long as the money is there before the interest is calculated I can earn the full amount of…

With-Profits Bonds investments
In August 2000, I made investments in with-profits bonds with CGU (now Norwich U), Clerical Medical and Scottish Widows. Not only have the returns been pitiful, there is still an MVR (last August statement had 10/15%). I can get my money back on the 10th anniversary and there will be no MVR then. It is my pride which is…

 Any experts out there on the EU Savings Tax Directive which came into force June 2005? I have some savings in an offshore account in Guernsey and was under the impression that as long as the investment income remained offshore, it was not taxable. WRONG! I have paid 15% 'retention tax' on the income generated…
