£30k to invest long term
I have come into some £30k cash which I'd like to invest (I wouldn't need to dip in for at least 5 years). Have got my ISA, got a very small manageable mortgage, get a smallish pension (my age is 50, single female) but not too worried as house has plenty collateral and would probably downsize in 10 years anyway and…

Long term high interest savings, low monthly deposit
Hi everyone, I can't find a discussion on MSE relating to this topic. If anyone knows of one, please let me know! Otherwise, any suggestions? I'd like to save a small amount per month (say £30-£50) in (obviously) as high an interest savings account, or equivalent, as possible. I don't mind tying my money up for 5 or 10…

Halifax 10% saving account
First post - please be gentle! I read Martin's article about the £1200 you can save in the Halifax account. In it, he says something about having an 'average of £600' in it - what does that mean? If you pay in £100 per month, after 12 months it adds up to £1200. So why the reference to an average of £600? Sorry if I'm…

I applied on-line to open 2 kids regular savers for my daughters with the Halifax. They both have a Save4it account as well. When I applied, I received an email saying it would take approx 14 days to set up. This seems a long time for applying on-line don't you think? The first deposit was to come from their Save4it…

Long term child savings
What would be the best place to save a £3000 lump sum for an 11 year old child, to mature when he leaves school? Ideally something where the money is locked away and no-one can spend it. I hope to open (in my control only) a regular savings account, probably that new Halifax 10% one and seek similar products in future…

FSA Compensation Thoughts
I note that the Savings & Investments for Saga are 'provided by' Birmingham Midshires who offer Savings in their own name of course. They in turn are a 'division of' Halifax plc who again obviously offer savings in their own right. Just a (very) daft question but if BM collapsed one day (and I know it ain't gonna happen)…
