Need to open a new account

Hey everyone!
My partner and i are hoping to move out soon so i think that we need to open a new account to put some money by each month to be able to buy all the bits and bobs that we will need.
I really dont know anything about any kind of banking or saving accounts so really just want a straight forward, easy to use account that i can pop some money in each month.
Is there a special name for one of these?! (Silly question i know!!) :rotfl:
Are joint accounts a good idea? Or should i get it in just my name?
All help greatly appreciated!!!!

Nationwide e-Savings 5%
For an internet bank this could be just usual saving account:
Cahoot savings account 5.1%
Also read 'Starting Saving' article and think about ISA and Regular Saving accounts. Are joint accounts a good idea? Or should i get it in just my name?
