Investment Trusts
Over the years I have accumulated small amounts of shares given to me by bigger companies. for example "THUS". These are worth so little that it would cost almost as much to sell them as I would receive from them. I know that , in the past, some Investment trusts have taken shares and converted them into their own shares…

Moving Money
If you are going to move money to another bank electronically try to do it on Monday or Tuesday so it arrives in the new A/c within the 3 working days of the same week.If you do it after Tuesday it does not usually arrive until the next week as the W/E does not count in working days.So it can take up to 5 or 6 days of lost…

National Savings Cuts Rates
Following the rise in the Bank of England Rate earlier this month, National Savings has cut at least one of its interest rates - 28th Issue Fixed Savings Certificates (tax free) Not sure when this occurred exactly, but sometime since 17th, as press relases from NS&I only go up to that date, and the current offering is not…

Shareholder rewards
Think it would be handy to have a listing of all shareholder rewards - Marks and Sparks are looking into this at the moment and with Signet there is a 10% discount at their stores. Obviously not a reason to buy a particular company shares in itself, but something to consider...

Abbey - latest demo on their site
Abbey's website seems to be even better than before. I've had their online a/c ever since it was first launched, and find it very efficient. Access has never been denied. (Cahoot, learn from your parent company!) Also, funds earn interest from the same day they are transferred to eSaver from the Abbey cheque account. So,…

Who has been consistent with high interest rates?
Hi to all money saving experts As you can see this is my first post so please be nice! ;) I too may be emigrating next year (looks like a trend at the mo) and will have a spare £80k. I am a very cautious person by nature and have never dabbled in anything higher risk than savings accounts :-/ I would obviously like to keep…

Coventry – AER equal for monthly/annual interest
Effective September 1st, Coventry Building Society's online account NetSave Instant offers the same AER, no matter whether interest is paid annually or monthly. (I know some folk here prefer to see their savings grow, month-by-month – eg via trend-setters ING Direct.) The only snag is Coventry's new rate is just 4.85%…

Premos! To sell & do waht with?
I bought £20,000 of Premium Bonds last year. I didn't need the money & I liked the idea of the safe gamble. As it goes, have won about £450 in £50 increment. I always said I'd it for a year and see. The year is nearly up and I'm not sure what to do with the money. I may need it in the next 12 months for a house deposit but…

Scottish Widdows savings....stay or go?
Here's the thing! I put away £30 every month into a Scottish Widdows endowment thing...not linked to my mortgage or anything. Anyway, it comes up for its 10 year anniversay in November and I can choose to take half the guaranteed life assurance value or something (about £3500 I think) or carry on for the full 20 year term.…

Invest or pay off debts?
I really want to invest some of my cash , but am still in debt from uni and have been told, for example, that I shouldn't bother buying shares unless I have no debt (bar my mortgage). So here's my question: is it better to just pay off my debt as soon as possible and throw all my available cash at that, or are there any…
