Motivation
How do you keep your motivation in your job when you are facing redundancy? Anyone got any tips? I've been off sick and came back to be told the news (final decisions not official yet), so haven't got much to keep busy with at work and don't have any motivation to find more bits to do.

Lost personnel file incl. TUPE letter I never received!
Hi, Just discovered this site whilst trawling for TUPE/contract information. In a nutshell, the company "I work for" has been sold to a competitor and all the IT department jobs are redundant. I say "I work for" because I believe that I work for a different legal entity to the one that has been sold, effectively I think I…

Redundancy terms, times and payment not clear.
Hello, Hopefully someone here will be able to help! My wife has been told by her company that they're closing the shop she works in. She's worked for Somerfield for 15 years, in various positions and locations, and Iceland, who've bought the particular shop she works in, have decided that they will close the shop and…

Leaving notice during consultation period
Hi. A statutory 90 day consultation period starts today prior to the work site being shut down. Esentially we are on 3 months notice. If I am offered a position during this time what notice am I obliged to give? My employment contract is 3 Months. I am subject to a training bond which, in normal circumstances, I would have…

Instant dismissal
I am a contractor and 'have' a contract paying a daily rate with a fixed start and finish date (starting 02/11/2009 - finish 02/02/2010) My contractually required minimum working hours are 40 hours per week. During the last week in November (4th week of contract) I was informed (verbally) that I would have to take or make…

Redundant but received no pay for last month, or redundancy pay
Hi all, [Apologies for posting this again, but I stuck it in the wrong place last time.] I was given two weeks redundancy notice on the 11th December '09 and worked until my last day of the 24th. I'd been there just over two years, so know my redundancy payment is two weeks wages. To this date, I have seen neither my last…

Consultation & Interview
I am facing redundancy this week. The department I work in employs two people. I am senior and the other is junior. The company have decided to restructure and as a result have advised one new role will be on offer if we want to attend an interview for it. Confusingly the 'new' role is exactly the same as the one I…

Redundant but still 'employed' - tax problem
Last year the company I was working for went into voluntary liquidation, as such I was made redundant but have been retained by the main investor without a contract to continue working in an effort to salvage the business. Prior to the liquidation, I received two (net) salary payments outside of the payroll which were paid…

Reduction in Hours or Redundancy?
I have recently been told by my employer that I am having my hours cut from 5 to 2 days a week as the company can’t afford my wages. I have been offered redundancy as an alternative and have been told to think about it before a meeting on Friday when I will give the company my decision. Obviously 2 days a week is not…

Would this class as voluntarily giving up your job?
Hello all, although I'm an old hand on these forums, I don't think I've posted on this board before. Right, I'll make it as short as possible. My son works for a retail chain and there are rumours that redundancies are afoot. His contract is only for eight hours a week and although when he first worked there he got around…

I was made redundant on 1/11/09 whilst signed off sick. I have worked for that employer for less than 2 years & was entitled to 3 months paid notice. As I was off sick whilst made redundant my employer has only paid SSP rather than my normal salary. My query is that my sick note expired on 1/12/09 (& I was feeling better…

Strategies for dragging out a consultation period?
I am 18 weeks pregnant and have been tipped off that an "at risk" letter is going to be sent to me shortly. I'm fairly certain they are going to rush through a redundancy to avoid paying my SMP. Redundancy - and new job
Hope people can take heart from this - but there are jobs out there. I was accepted for voluntary redundancy in December. I was offered yesterday (and accepted this morning) a job in a similar vein to the one I do now. Same industry, same salary and for a 6 month fixed term. I've not even left my old job yet too! Finish on…
