How do you keep your motivation in your job when you are facing redundancy?
Anyone got any tips?
I've been off sick and came back to be told the news (final decisions not official yet), so haven't got much to keep busy with at work and don't have any motivation to find more bits to do.

its hard but you have to remember that whilst you have a job you are being paid to be proactiveAlways ask ACAS0

I'm actually a bit puzzled as to why you are concerned about your motivation in the circumstances? Can you clarify why?0

Personally, I'd do the jobs you're given, and do them well - they're still paying you, after all.
I wouldn't break my back to find more stuff though.
Be nice to people, appear positive and smile.

I was given a consultation period of 12 weeks, that's a long time to keep motivated. All my team was in exactly the same boat so we spurred each other on. We all had very bad days when one of us would be in tears and we all pulled together.
We did what was asked and nothing more. Our position was that our managers and Area Managers were in exactly the same situation as us - facing redundancy so they didn't put any pressure on us, targets were lowered etc.
I'd just get your head down, complete all tasks and stay positive. And good luck.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Consultation is about trying to avoid the redundancies and the impact to the personel and the company.
Investigate why they need to make redundancies ask for justification look for ways to avoid delay etc.
Any other jobs where you could be redeployed in the business.
Start negotiating a package morethan stat redundancy, PILON, time off to look for work, get CV upto date outplacement services etc.
If you have free time start the job hunt, networking, learning new skill anything that will get you back into employment when the day comes.
Also look at your finances, cut back on everything you can, mobiles sky, utilities, etc.0 -
Hi quick tips:
1. Get you C.V. up-to-date and posted onto websites like Monster and Totaljobs
2. Get in touch with Recruitment agencies and forward them your C.V. - don't forget they make money out of you getting a job so use them - get them to give your C.V a check as well and give you some tips
3. Get someone in your H.R. department or a manager to give you a dummy interview test and let you have feedback
4. As per the last post, sort your finances out and plan your expenses as best you can
5. Look at all your savings and add to your redundancy to work out what you will have to live off before having to consider Job Seekers allowance
6. Start using and making as many contacts as you can to find a new job...be bold...if people can't help they may be able to put you in touch with someone who can
7. Look back over previous places you have worked for contacts or vacancies
8. Phone up companies directly that could have a similar role to yours and just ask if they have any vacancies currently or potentially in the future
Not much on motivation in your current job I am afraid but like most of the previous advice, do your best (given the circumstances) and re-direct your motivation into getting your next job.
Excellent point from "getmore4less" that you are in consultation so it is still not definite...follow their guidance and check with your Union if there is one.

Because I can't really see the point of going in just to stare into space all day.
Because I'd rather be at home doing housework, baking etc.
Because I'm only at work to get the redundancy money and that doesn't feel quite right somehow
It's only my 3rd job in 20 years and I've never even had a week between jobs, so never been out of work before and not used to not working unless I'm ill.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
It's "not final" but basically I have already been told any job share etc will not work and that there is no alternative. So it's final in all but dates and legality.
Thanks for the tips - SOA posted on the debt free board, found one work thing to do today that has a point to it, so at least I feel like I've done something!
Have also sent off a company healthcare claim for the fact I was in hospital as NHS patient so that'll be a bit more money coming.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Do as little work as possible for them, hang in there until you get the redundancy money0

I understand what you are going through. I am also under a consultancy period.
Not fun. But at the end being made redundant is not about you and your skills. It about the company having no money.
Keep smiling, be postive around work at the end of the day it is the end of a job not the end of your life.0
