Reverse Merit
There are four in our department and one of us is going to be made redundant. Our boss says that the person who goes will be decided by 'reverse merit'. Is this a legitimate way of doing it? Are there any legal rules that say how an employer must decide which person will go? Thanks for any help.

Redundancy-my experience
I decided to take voluntary redundancy in April. It buys me time till December. The reason I requested it was because I don't feel the company will be offering a good package like this next time. In fact, I don't feel they will survive in the long term. I also wanted a chance to peruse my own work as a musician and…

jump or be pushed
A few of our team including myself are on a performance review program. We are being set up to lose our jobs but all being done in a clever and documented way. Objectives we have been set are impossible but unfortunately its not a place where you can challenge objectives without being seen as negative or shot down. We have…

Redundancy Planning - how to get out of working notice period?
I have worked for my employer for the last 15 years, since I was 16 years old. We were told 2 weeks ago that 45 out of the 50 people in my department will be made redundant. I have found out that I am not one of the people selected, however I have a feeling that I may be selected by the end of the year so I want to start…

Can I be made redundant if my job still exists?
Hi, I've been 'summoned' to a mtg at work on Thurs - in fact just got the letter when I got home today - Tuesday - very angry actually as the letter says that the HR person and the manager who are meeting with me are travelling from the head office in another town (quite some distance) to see me - but I don't actually work…

Redundant...but could I get offered my job back?
The company with which I've had my job with for the last 4 years cut my team in half, from 6 to 3 people. I was 4th in the rankings upon interview and therefore was notified I was being made redundant. I'm currently 3 weeks into my 6 week notice period and have been released and am working in a temporary job elsewhere. I…

Hi, I started a new job less than 6 months ago, all going great. A few weeks ago there were rumours about some jobs being at risk due to a reorganisation. taxation of PILON by I.R. + "accepted practise"
Hi All I have challenged the deduction of tax and NI from my 13 weeks redundancy notice period. Basically we were told to finish immediately and not given the option of working the notice. There is no mention of PILON in my contract of employment (as it is 20 years old). When I wrote to the Inland Revenue reclaiming the…

Voluntary redundancy - your experiences?
Hi , Like many others I am sure I am weighing up whether to take voluntary redundancy. Interested in knowing other people's experiences with taking voluntary redundancy and getting new work. How do you find new employers treat the fact that you took voluntary redundancy? Do they look on it negatively? Did it effect your…

Redundant and pay-off
Hi all, Looking for some advice if possible. I was made redundant with immediate effect yesterday. No pre-warning or anything, I turned up for a regular 1-to-1 review with my manager at head office to be told in front of a witness that my position was redundant. Given I have been there for 21 months, officially I receive…
