Fly spray the best?
Normally in summer now and again I get a few larger flies a day but currently this summer I get constant tiny flies all day long and not sure why. Shall I just invest in a bottle of fly spray? I get a lot of wasps recently too, I did look at a tree right outside bedroom window and see at least a dozen swarming around it…

Why not reuse unwalked on carpet underlay?
I need to replace my living room and stair carpet which have flattened and discoloured in the high traffic areas. However, there are lots of areas of the living room carpet which have hardly been walked on, e.g under furniture, behind the settees, etc. where the carpet itself is hardly worn. I reckon there is enough…

Hi, I hope you lovely people can help. My husband is on the verge of being made redundant again!!!! I spent hours last night working out where every penny of my tiny pay check will be going. We can just survive on my wages but only have £135 per month for food!!!! That's for 2 adults and a 3 and a 4 year old. I am vegan…

Need help with veg
Hi! I'm new here...well, i used to be on here years ago but forgot my details so I'm now "born again". :D Anyway, a lot of my overspending comes from food shopping. I've now decided to change my ways :j So I've looked at what we already have and made a meal plan. So far so good. My stumbling block is veg. I used to buy…

Soft diet ideas
Hi Any ideas for a soft diet would be great, so far I have only eaten soup, ice cream and a few noodles. I tried a couple of hot dogs thinking they are soft but I just couldn't manage them.

Best way of baking a potato? And recommend me a good pan
For the potato I used to make baked potatos a lot and put cheese and onion on top (probably not great for cholesterol) but wow it was nice. The best method I had was boil them first then bake them, I did try with foil but that just dried them out and even tried straight in oven with foil and they ended up solid and the…

christmas cake going mouldy
I normally make my Christmas cake about September, and all is well. But last year when I went to ice about a week before Christmas it was mouldy. Normally I feed the cake with alcohol and keep an apple inside the tin, but I didn't last year and I am wondering if this could have been the reason for the mould. Any…

Back In My Day: How much did things cost back in another decade ?
How much did a pint of milk cost in 1958? When was the cheapest time to buy a new house? Choose a year between 1917 and 2016 and a UK region and 'Back In My Day', the new online tool will show you how much prices have changed over the decades. For example, a pint of milk was just £0.13 back in 1958 (now £2.88) and the…

Tips on preserving surplus windfall cooking apples
Exactly as the title says really. I have a massive cooking apple tree in my garden and every year I do my best to make the best use of the fruit, but this year it has me a little beaten. A combination of a mild, wet spring followed by a pretty good summer and not having got around to pruning it this winter means we're…

I have been following a lot of threads on here for some time now. I have decided to start my own. I have luckily never been in debt apart from the obvious of having a mortgage loan - so could not post in the Debt section. Just a quick introduction about me - When growing up both my parents worked but did not have fantastic…
