This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Hi Ya chums ,back home late yesterday afternoon and virtually all unpacked.Boy was it warm last night I'm up and about early this morning as I am driving my DGS Ben to Norwich this morning His boss of his two part-time jobs has asked if he could work extra before he starts back to Uni and as he and his g/f are off to Florence on 13th September for a week he jumped at the chance. He has got a free flight as his g/f Mum couldn't use the ticket. His g/f is studying Art History at Uni so she is over the moon that Ben will go with her.DD has to work today so a bit of re-jigging of my schedule was required We are going early in hope of getting through the worst of the weekend traffic asap.Good old Gran
:):)
Hope all is well with everyone Its nice to be home ,even though its a bit fleeting hopefully I shall get there and back in one piece:)
Cheers chums JackieO xx0 -
Morning :hello:
Lainey I hope your mum's feeling better today x
csarina Have you considered having your shopping delivered? I use Morrisons, if I have my deliveries mid-week I can pay £30 and it covers as many deliveries as I want for a year (except Christmas week). Minimum spend £40. I imagine the other supermarkets do the same?
tiredmum Just the thought of walking Scampi into a gang of six cats makes me panic! He has a huge prey drive and would be 100% focused on them, he'd go deaf to anything else going on around him and would catch and kill at least one of them.
Welcome home JackieO
Scampi was a nightmare on our walk yesterday, I was really wound up when we got home. So I told mr tru to take over, me being cross would just make Scampi worse. So I backed off for a few hours and mr tru took over. Nightmare. He threw all sort of words around when he had to tell him to come away from the window and stop barking, etc. etc. and Scampi had no idea what he meant so of course he just carried on. I was furious and by teatime I lost it, told mr tru how useless he'd been since the day Scampi came home, you nagged for a dog for years and as soon as we got one you ignored the vet and behaviourist about his nerves and the rules we should follow, I've been doing this for almost 18 months now and you just come home from work and undo everything I've done all day, I can't do this anymore, I'm tired and HAVE HAD ENOUGH  His reaction was to storm upstairs and shut himself in the bedroom! I followed him, stood there with my hands on my hips, laid down the law then said I'm sick of putting everyone else first, you will now fit around me for a change. Then I went downstairs and watched an episode of Teen WolfI have a good Don't F With Me face which I'll be using a lot from now on. lol
I need to clean the kitchen floor and hang some washing out. I'm going to have a pampering shower then treat my feet, they need some serious attention. No walk this morning, I'm going to take a cuppa into the front garden, Scampi can practice not reacting to passers-by. I have a big bag of his favourite treats readyI'll be having my favourite food for lunch, this afternoon is strictly for reading while eating chocolate

Good morning and safe journey JackieO.
I have washing ready to go out once the mister gets up and is ready to climb out. It all seems rather like reverse burgling. He's very much averse to contacting the (hopeless) letting agency to remind them because he's worried about getting a notice to leave at this stage in househunting as we really don't want to take on a new tenancy and be tied to a place for six months, which could easily scupper a purchase. There are so many things wrong here though, it is quite dispiriting.
Today I shall do a bit of scrubbage this morning and then am off to see a friend, must get her birthday card and a treat, perhaps pretty flowers, on the way.
I should do some work but think that can wait for tomorrow when I have no plans.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone.
Welcome back Jackie and thanks for starting us off this morning.
Yesterday the weather stayed hot and sunny until about half four. We went to Dunoon for the Cowal Gathering, the drive down was beautiful. Once there we watched the 'heavy throwing' event which was fascinating for my friend. Putting the shot, tossing the hammer, Scots hammer and something which I don't know the name of - chucking a 56lb weight as high as possible over a wooden bar. Just as the final event was starting, tossing the caber, the heavens opened so we left. Such a shame but we really enjoyed the day.
Back home we had pizza and wine. No idea what we're doing today and I wish everyone a happy Saturday.0 -
Don't blame you tru! Scampi is probably quite confused about what is and isn't allowed.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0

Morning All
Go tru! You're right, Scampi will never learn unless you all sing from the same hymn sheet (so to speak). Enjoy your chocolate!
csarina - good idea from tru, have you tried a local church group, they quite often have folk who would sit with DH, I know they do in my Aunt's church.
Glad you have had a good holiday JackieO, have a safe journey today.
Looks a bit gloomy outside today, the washing is on the airer as it looks like rain. Lovely day yesterday until I went to my new veggie bed then the heavens opened! Still I managed to turn the soil over and take out the few weeds that were there - they have kept it covered in black plastic which was really helpful. The chap who runs it said I could help myself to onions so I have a row of white and a row of red. I'll go up this afternoon to plant out the little plants I bought last week.
Must remember to collect a picture from the framers, it's been there for about a month! A visit to Ald! is on the cards too.
Have a good weekend, no bank holiday for us but I'll be thinking of you! Take care. XX0 -
Good morning,
Thank you Jackie for starting us off, and a safe journey up to Norfolk.
It is a bit overcast this morning, yesterday was gorgeous, but a bit hot for me, but the bed linen dried quickly and it is lovely to dry sheets in the sun.
We are off out looking for a few bits for DDs birthday. She always has money but I like to find a few little bits for her as well, so will see what we can find.
Nothing in particular planned for the weekend, Himself will be watching the GP tomorrow, but other than that we will go with the flow.
Have a good weekend all

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread JACKIE hope the A14 / A11 is clear and well behaved x
Woke up to thick fog this morning but has gradually lifted, yesterday was a stunning day.
Have already had a text from Mum to say that although had a good night & the pain has eased she is going back to bed as feels so poorlyjust hope she picks up enough for her weekend away.
Not much in the way of plans today, the garden could do with a bit of a tidy as it's been too hot the last few days. Also need to get over to see Bill, hope to trim his face and feet as getting hairy!
:T to Tru re insisting on consistency for Scampi, it's the only way, but did have to giggle at thought of you doing double teapot and laying it on the line
Have a good day whatever you are up to, take care folks x0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a bit overcast here this morning but I think it will brighten up later. Hubby is up but the girls are all still asleep. I think they are making the most of it before school starts. Speaking of which, the school has changed its uniform for this September and I ordered DD's 13 and 15 new blazers and trousers a couple of months ago. Poor DD13's trousers have still not turned up so I contacted the school yesterday. They said they were aware of the problem and were looking into it. That's all well and good but I hope her trousers turn up before school starts as otherwise she will be a bit chilly round the nether region
DD16 went to a barbecue yesterday with her friends to celebrate passing their GCSE's. There was a little bit of alcohol involved so I was a bit worried but DD was fine when she came home. She is very sensible about things like that. I was just very happy she went out and socialised.
JackieO, thanks for starting us off today, hope you have a pleasant journey.
Tru, good for you for sticking up for Scampi. Everyone needs consistency including wayward dogs (and husbands). I too have a deathstare which I only bring out on 'special' occasions, it certainly gets results :rotfl:.
Ancient, I can't believe how annoying it must be not to have a working back door. I hope you can find another place to live soon.
Lainey, sorry to hear your mum feels so poorly. Hopefully a day in bed will restore some of her energy and she will feel a little better.
Well, I am off now so I hope you all have a great day, take care xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. It's a fine morning but keeps clouding over, think we are for some rain.
Thank you for the ideas re shopping and someone to sit with OH. Shopping, I shop at Aldi or Lidl but I have had groceries delivered from Morrison before, it's ok for heavy things, but stuff like meat, veg and fruit I like to choose for myself.
OH did have a sitter from the chapel round the corner, but the chap also volunteered at the local hospice, they asked him to work on a Thursday, so that went down the drain. I am going to wait and see what the WRVS come up with.
We have half the holes filled in. I took OH to the Bingham library yesterday, he managed the walk ok with a couple of stops to get his balance. When we got back the chaps were preparing to fill in the holes and tarmac the bits that needed it. Someone else will come and do the concrete bits, different crew.
Nothing planned for today except push the Dyson over the carpets and may be blow the dust around. Not sure what OH wants for supper tonight, will see when we get up.
Contractors phoned re the wet room, they will start on Wednesday morning, this weeks job took longer than expected.
SIL is coming Tuesday, so with the shower people starting Weds. I will
not have to put up with her and the mess from the bathroom.........0
