    Morning all,

Got back from Devon yesterday afternoon after a four hour drive, I was shattered and did not do anything for the rest of the afternoon and was in bed very early.

Had a wonderful week away though very relaxing, although we crammed a lot in, had a day kayaking up the canal at the bottom of the garden and stopping for a picnic half way we saw so much wildlife as they cant hear you coming, Kingfishers and a swan mum with 10 babies countless dragonfly's etc, Evie came on the kayak with us and stood on the front showing us they way to go , she only fell in once right at the very end but her life jacket saved her (along with OH scooping her out of the water) like a little drowned rat :rotfl:
We also had a day on a steam train and visit to Dunster castle which was beautiful and we could have spent longer there. We had a lovely meal on a river restaurant where we had to get a boat out to, it was one of the best meals I have ever had the fish was so fresh and tasty.

However back to reality this morning and the wm will be on overtime I will need to pop to the shops and get some bits and bobs and I also want to clear some rubbish (old wardrobe etc) that has accumulated in the car port.

Hope you have all been ok, hugs to Lainey xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all

Tru, I don't blame you reading hubby the riot act.

Lainey, I hope mum feels better soon.

    JackieO have a good journey

    AOD, bloody letting agents!

Redruby, the canalside life is wonderful isn't it.

Csarina, good news that SIL is arriving before the work starts.

Hubby had to go to work this morning, but only for a couple of hours, I went to the bakers and bought some rolls and a small loaf, then to the butchers and bought burgers and a cabbage. That should be it for this week as I'm running the freezers down. My hubby will also be watching the GP and always has burgers in a bun whilst watching.

DD2 has just phoned from her holiday to ask if I can collect the DGD's from school for 2 weeks from 6th Sept, she has been asked to cover holiday work, it's the place she works on Saturdays and she'd like to work there full time.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

Hi all, thanks for the thread Jackie and safe journey to Norfolk xx

Tru - good for you re. scampi. They need routine just like children, so DH is doing you no favours.
Lainey - hope mum is feeling brighter today X
Redruby - poor little Evie taking a swim awwww X
csarina - good news on the wet room start date. Sending hugs xx

I had a very low day yesterday, not helped by lack of sleep. DH seemed brighter and he reposted his cv onto some job sites and had a couple of calls. In laws have said they will keep us afloat but would rather not go down that route if possible. Have gone through the finances and will cancel/review a few things. We went shopping at Aldi and asda and have meal planned for the coming week.

Quiet day today so have mostly been drinking tea sitting in the garden. No pennies spent today :)

    Have a good day all

Don't blame you tru! Scampi is probably quite confused about what is and isn't allowed.
Of course he's confused! Dogs don't actually understand English, they associate a specific sound with a specific something happening/something being required of them. Sit. Walk. Down. Quiet. Leave it. That sort of thing. Tone of voice is also important. For instance, it's no good saying "leave it" in a whiny, sort of "would you mind leaving it, if it's ok with you" way, you have to mean it. I admit to getting exasperated on Tru's behalf rather often.

When I have dogs here, I take the time to memorise their "known words" - I even had one, if you wanted her to lie down the command was "Duck".:D
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Thank you monnagran for the book recommendation. I visited our library earlier and asked at the desk. They don't stock it so I might ask for it for my birthday as DSis was asking what I'd like. Did leaf through some self help books whilst at the library on anxiety, so not a wasted journey.

Despite not wanting to shop today, we are out of bread, so I popped to sainsbury and got basics bread, milk, and semolina to make shortbread (recipe in Asdas free mag). Just took it out of the oven and it smells lovely. Will be a treat for us all later.

Hope you are all having a good day,

We're just back from a really lovely day down in Campbeltown - it's a long drive there but the weather was just glorious. The views over to Jura and Gigha were spectacular and the sun was boiling hot.

It's ArtMap weekend in Argyll so we went to see a neighbour in his studio and bought some cards and 'ordered' a painting as he'd sold most of his stuff.

Then visited another neighbour on the way for a cup of tea and chat (she's elderly sometimes lonely) and now at home waiting for yet another neighbour to call round. For living in a very rural area with most people at least one mile away I get to see my neighbours much more than when I lived in busy Newcastle.

Good to read about everyone's day. Off for a sundowner now...

Coxy: I bought the book through Amazon. Went down the 'used book' route and bought one for 1p + postage. I am suspicious of this sort of book and unwilling to part with any more money than I have to. However, this is one that is worth its weight in gold to me. Hope it does it for you.

My late mother used to use semolina when she made shortbread, I had forgotten that. She also used it with some almond essence in bakewell tarts - ground almonds being unobtainable during the war. I've done the bakewell tart but now have a yen to try the shortbread, thank you.

Good evening all.back from my foray into the wilds of Norfolk. We left at 0.8.00 and got there at 11.00.a.m. dropped all his bits and pieces off at his student house then I took DGS Ben and DGS Henry out for a celebratory lunch as DGS Jack had got his results through the post and got 9 decent grades in his GCSE's including an A* in English Lit and has had his 6th form place confirmed in writing.I am so pleased for him and he is already thinking ahead two years towards doing a degree in Journalism.DGS Henry got all B's in his three science's which bless him surprised himself:) as his favorite subjects is Spanish.Henry will do the rest of his GCSE's next year as his school like them to get the science ones out of the way when in year 10.So we all had a decent lunch in The Castle pub, then I dropped ben back at his house as he is working all night tonigh and also tomoorow night and a three hour shift at lunchtime tomorrow .He is a real little grafter and never turns down anything if he can.

Henry and I left Norwich at 12.45 to drive back the 140 plus miles and it was fine until we got about 7 miles from the Dartford crossing then it was crawling all the way.I eventually got us back to sunny Rainham at 5.30 p.m..DD filled me up with copious amounts of tea and I toddled off home and won't stir outside until around 5.30 tomorrow night when I go to dinner at DDs.
I have just worked it out I have driven around 450 miles in the past 24 hours so its now time for feet up and I think perhaps even a small G&T.

Its still very warm and humid here in north Kent and my holiday washing is chugging away downstairs, Monna I too use semolina when I make shortbread :)as did my old Mum before me .

Tru there comes a time when you just have to flip out and put your foot firmly down ,well done ,you go girl :)

Lainey hope your Mum has a good night tonight xx

gers isn't it weird ,when I lived in the countryside (Mersea Island, Essex) everyone around knew exactly who my OH were and where we had come from (them Lunnon folk ) bless them ,when we moved back to London in 1967 the local PC knocked on our door the night before, and said if we weren't taking our flowering cherry tree my OH had planted could he have it, as his wife loved the shade it came out in !!

I hadn't a clue who his wife was or that she had even noticed it in our front garden .When I said yes help yourself , he said 'thank you missus' and produced his own spade and bucket from his car and proceeded to dig the blooming thing up.

Coxy I have everything crossed for you and your OH honey xx

redruby your holiday sounds brilliant, rest up now and recover from it :)
Hope you all have had a good day what ever you are doing

    Cheers chums

    JackieO xx

Wow Jackie you must be shattered after all that driving. A much earned G&T for sure. Well done to your GSs on their results x Typical that you got caught at the Dartford crossing. Think yourself lucky you didn't need the M20 as a lorry hit a footbridge and it was closed for ages :(

Monnagran - I can confirm that the shortbread was delicious. Very light and very moreish oooops :)

    Hi everyone!
I'm new here, I hope you don't mind me joining in and saying hello!
I'm a single mum of two girls (age 13 and 11) and I'm just starting to put my life back together after it fell apart last year when my husband unexpectedly left me.
I've gotten a job, made friends and am starting now to get my home sorted the way I want it and to try and organise it better and to get back into more home cooking and planning. So I found my way here and it seems like an amazing place so I thought I'd drop in and say hello!
