This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning, couldn't sleep so I'm up having a cuppa.
Thanks for your support re. DH. I'm so worried about him, never seen him this low. Tonight we will go through our finances with a fine tooth comb and sort out a plan. Unfortunately I have a longer day at the church (typical) as a volunteer is handing another job over to me. This involves tea and cake though so every cloud.
Back later when I am more lucid.
Dumpling - well done to your DD, that's great news xxx

Morning All
Coxy, I slept ok last night but very little the night before and I know hubby I awake a lot most nights. My hubby is 60, so has very little chance of getting another job, this is why we are putting our house on the market.
I'm off to DD2's this morning to get the children fed and dressed and keep an eye on them whilst DD has a lie-in, once DD2 is up I'm going to see DD1 for a couple of hours.
This afternoon, if it's not too hot I need to trim my bush, it's taking over the front flower bed so cutting it back will improve the kerb appeal.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Showery here this morning, feels quite autumnul. Washing all dried outside yesterday, re-made the bed and even did the ironing! Work was so busy I felt I didn't have time to take a breath, today will be the same but hoping to finish a big job that's hanging over me.
dumpling - congrats to your DD.
coxy - so sorry your DH didn't get the job, there will be something round the corner for him.
Safe journey home JackieO, sounds like you have had a lovely relaxing time.
Hugs to you Lainey, how are you hilstep?
I'm going to see what the raised bed is like at the community gardens later, will do what I can to it then go back tomorrow as I have managed to get some late cabbage, carrot and brocolli plants that I want to get in.
Happy Friday! Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Thanks for starting us off Coxy.
Yesterday was a long day for me, out the house for 11 hours, and moved from manic to boring and back to manic again. And then there was a bad accident about eight miles from home which closed the road and almost scuppered getting there. Thankfully a pit stop in Inverary meant we got up to date news from the local street cleaner, think they've got some kind of pager. Anyway, hospital, airport, shopping and Chinese takeaway all done in good'ish order and then outside watching the sun go down.
Today already looks good though I doubt it will stay that way. No real plans so my visitor and I will take what comes our way.
Hugs to all.
Happy Friday everyone.0 -
Good Morning chums ,most of the packing is done and just shower and breakfast to sort out for us all.Beautiful last night meal for us all in the Buddle Inn at Niton. Not cheap, but we always have a bit of a blow-out at the end of our hols. Mid-morning boat at 11.30 then the slog through the M3,M25,M26 & M20 and fingers crossed home by 4.00ish.
Once all the stuff is dropped at DDs first, then to my house, I have to load up DGS Bens stuff from my house into my car, as I am driving him up to Norwich first thing in the morning as he has a couple of weeks work to do before Uni starts.
Young DGS Henry is coming along for the ride tomorrow (I think he just wants to see Ben's new student house ) DD has work tomorrow ,but only for the day.
At some point today I will also nip to the shops to get some fresh fruit and veg, its all I really need as I have plenty of stuff in the freezer and cupboards to keep me going. I am away again mid-September to Scotland for a few days so I shan't be buying much before then.
The sun is already up and shining and looks as though its going to be another nice day.
Hope everyone has a good weekend as its Bank Holiday so a bit longer for most,
Cheers chums

Morning all, a bright fresh morning after a very dull and muggy day yesterday with torrential rain in the evening.
Coxy I hope the right job comes up for your OH very soon.
Dumpling well done to your daughter. My youngest niece has done well too.
I've been working at full stretch the last few days, now officially off for over a week which basically means work from home as am still catching up from when I was unwell. Yesterday was our 32nd anniversary and I did a not particularly adventurous meal but something that OH and DS love, roast lamb, roast potatoes, broccoli peas and mint sauce. I had a little lamb, some potato and broccoli, I don't like peas. Gave most of my meat to DS as he loves it and I don't really. Then meringues (bought ones, I am not confident about meringues and also no time as had been working) with whipped cream, blueberries and raspberries. Not all that OS on the face of it but it cost me £18 , with wine, for the three of us and i am sure it woukd have cost a lot more to go out for a meal. And OH wouldnt have been able to have wine, he wojkd have been driving. We don't always do anniversary gifts and I'd suggested not this year, since it isn't a special number but I did have a rather nice card from OH, which said Let us grow old together, you and I; you first.
I need to get some washing in to make the best of the dry day, OH can climb out with it when he gets up and I've a new lappy from work (really a new one, not just new to me, wonders will never cease) so he needs to help me connect it to our wireless as I don't ever remember the code and he's put it In A Safe Place so he'll need to remember where that is.
It is wasp season, I'm not scared of much but I freeze in proximity to those nasty stripy horrors. And as the kitchen window handle fell off sone months ago it is now permanently open so they come in a lot.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Another hot one here, will strip the beds and get them done and on the line before taking MIL shopping, may be forced to go to the pub for a couple this evening
Coxy - Really feel for you and your OH, what a horrible drawn out process for him - keeping everything crossed for you both X
Miss Dumpling - well done hunny bunny X
I hope all exam results were good ones x
Hester - Can you please make reference gardening before you say things like 'if it's too hot I need to trim my bush' I nearly spat out my coffee........:eek:Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Haha Islandmaid I sniggered when I read it

I asked a friend who runs his own business – not sure what you'd call it, he just does a bit of anything as the mood takes him, lol – to clean our upstairs windows. Before I knew it, he'd done the downstairs ones too. He refused to take any money so I told him I wouldn't have asked him if I'd known he'd refuse payment. I made him leave with a box full of squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs, chillies and 2 homemade sauces
I'm aiming for an hour's walk this morning, it may be much shorter than that though, depending on how many of Scampi's triggers we encounterCats are the worst – if he sees one, he'll kick off but will calm down once it's out of sight. If he spots another, he completely loses it, won't calm down and will have a tantrum at everything that moves for the rest of the walk. I keep being told, keep going and he'll get used to it eventually. But it's the one thing he hasn't improved on at all so if we see more than one cat, I just turn around and walk towards home while he's still snarling and trying to drag me back towards the cat. All the while I'm thinking 'OMG I hope no-one films this out of their window then puts it on YouTube' :rotfl:
It rained heavily during the night but the sun is shining at the moment. I put the towels on the airer yesterday, they're still very wet so I'll put them on the line in a mo. I don't think it'll make much difference though, the air feels very damp. The kitchen floor needs a good scrub, we had a doggy visitor again yesterday and I let them outside in the muddy garden to play. I closed all the doors inside but forgot to block access to the stairs, which had a nice clean carpet. IdiotNot sure what else is happening, the weather keeps changing and mr tru is home today so it's not worth making plans, I'll just see how it goes.

Good morning chums,
Was one of those days yesterday and I didn't get an opportunity to pop by. Hope all is well.
Been a hectic few days and today will be no different. In work super early so I could make time to get organised, including saying hi to you all. Long event day at work so I don't think I'll finish till after 10pm unfortunately, thank goodness I'm off tomorrow.
Coxy - I'm sorry to hear the bad news about your DH's job. Fingers crossed something comes up soon.
Hester - This is a family forum and it's before the watershed!!!
AOD - That sounds like a lovely evening and a belated happy anniversary.
Have a nice day and weekend everyone.0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry and bright here, we obviously have had some rain in the night as everything looks clean and fresh this morning. Could do with it cooling down a bit, hot flushes + high temperatures are not a comfortable combination
The WM is going already and will be changing the bed next, good thing about the warm weather is how quickly everything dries on the line. Do need to get out to the shops for provisions, fresh veg and salad bits, also am making two desserts for the family get together on Monday. Am thinking mint aero cheesecake and a key lime pie as they are both reasonably easy to transport.
I went to see Bill yesterday and gave him a cooling wash down. His mane and tail have grown very long, will sort his mane but am loathed to touch his tail until the flies are gone. The warmer weather certainly seems to be helping his mobility.
Spoke to Mum yesterday and she was having a bad day with nausea etc, hope she feels better today as off to my brothers for the weekend.
AOD Happy Anniversary for yesterday, glad you enjoyed your meal.
JACKIE safe journey home, have loved hearing all about your family adventures.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Good morning everyone
It's a beautiful bright sunny morning here today. I managed a better nights sleep so I feel much happier. It's amazing what a difference it makes. Everyone else is still asleep so I have been pottering round sorting out the online banking etc as it's payday.
I'm hoping to have a quiet day as we had some unexpected visitors yesterday which was nice but tiring. Fortunately I had rounded up the girls and given them a room each to clean so the house wasn't too bad.
I made a roast chicken dinner which was lovely apart from the gravy which came out a bit gloopy. I'll stick to using granules in the future. Today I am using up the leftover chicken to make fajitas. Then sticking with the Mexican theme, tomorrow I am going to make chilli and nachos.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0
