Cleaning my silver mini oven
I have a new Morphy Richards silver mini oven (stainless steel I think) and its great just for me, but the instructions say not to use any cleaners or scourers on it and just warm water otherwise it will affect the elements. That's OK but what about if any grease needs removing? Surely water alone can't clean an oven.

Cooking/recipe advice with disability
Hi everyone :j In my head I LOVE cooking, but in reality my body would rather go to sleep 🙄💤 I have a family of 4 and I have M.E. and I'm really struggling to think of easy ways to feed the family, it's just getting harder for me. I try to use the slow cooker when I can and try and cook bigger portions so I can freeze, but…

Best way to cook chicken breasts
Hi all, I live alone and am wondering what the best way is to cook chicken breasts? If I use the oven I will burn them as I have to make sure they are cooked right through, I don't fry anything, I have a slow cooker. I just want to cook one chicken breast per meal, not batches of them to freeze etc. I am currently having…

Cheap Heater
May I ask your advice? Our living room has an open fire and no other source of heat. We have GCH but no radiator in that room. I didn't really want one as it would take up wall space and we don't often have the heating on. Could you recommend a heater that can be plugged in for a while in times of really cold weather?…

Char Sui Pork
Hello I've just had a bash at making this following a recipe off YouTube, but it seems to be nothing like the ones I've ever had from the takeaway. I used sesame oil, sherry, garlic, hoisin sauce, honey, five spice, soy sauce. I have just realised that I missed out the sugar but it's not like the rich reddish sauce I was…

Preparedness - the continuation thread
We were going to start a new thread following the referendum. So I have decided to bite the bullet. I really hope everyone who posted on the old preparedness thread will continue to contribute their wit, wisdom and occasional witterings (that's me, then) as we try to discern our paths through the uncertain but very…

Lock & Lock boxes - special offer on QVC
I'm a big fan of Lock & Lock because they really do last much longer than the pound shop specials. QVC has a great value set of 12 containers (3 sets of 4 boxes) which are all nestable to save space... £16.92 plus £4.94 postage. That's less than £2 a box and the largest ones are 1.6 litre.…

Cheap Slow Cooker/One Pan Meals
Hi, I'm looking at meal prepping to try and save money and time. Does any one know of any low prep and low cost meals for two busy adults? I've got a few ideas from the forums and Pinterest, but would like a few more before I make the mother of all meal plans :rotfl:

My sons schools shoes have velcro on them. This is getting dirty and clogged up with grass, carpet and unidentified substances  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean this. I have tried picking at it with a needle but this will take forever as its mostly little bits. thanks

Rendering beef fat
Hi all, Cooked a rib roast on Sunday and have lots of lumps of fat cut off it...can I render this for future uses in roast potatoes? How do I do that...or would it be best to just put it in the freezer and grab a lump each time - I don't want my house stinking of fat :/

Can you use Zoflora as a cleaner?
Me again sorry :) My work colleague swears by Zoflora so I have looked it up and it sounds good. I must admit I am tired of all the bottles under my sink - Flash gel, microwave cleaner, mildew remover, pet spray, disinfectant, bleach, Cif. I know Zoflora is a disinfectant but can you use it just for general cleaning also

The ongoing chicken debate
I am still struggling with cooking. I live alone and have decided to buy a whole chicken again. I looked in M&S today and their chickens say on the packet 'Do not reheat' so that has put me off cooking it and freezing it and reheating it. I have thought of cooking it and making it last but according to the pack it is safe…
