O/S Daily Thread for Wednesday 6th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Back to the usual routine today, go to DD2's get help with breakfast, play ball, feed the dog, change a nappy, collect DGS, then on to work.
I stocked up yesterday with food for hubby to take to Silverstone and to feed the DGC on for the weekend.
I'll get the rooms and beds made tonight ready for them to invade.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone.

It's lovely and bright outside though I think rain is forecast for later.

The towels dried yesterday after all. After the unfortunate timing of a rain shower there wasn't any more.

I did all the needed IV allocations and student updating. I also had a flurry of online shopping from M&S's sale which I'll collect on Friday in Glasgow. I noticed that most of my black trousers have thinning patches over the knee areas so I've ordered replacements. I've not had new ones for over three years so I'm not being frivolous.

This morning I've got a hair cut early doors and really need one. It's always a week between my hair being perfect and it being a birds nest. Then a visit to the bank to put a cheque in - haven't done that for a good while - and a little shopping.

I hope everyone has a good day.

PS in edit - found my water melon jumper online. http://www.targetdry.com/products/lighthouse-womens-haven-cotton-sweater-top?variant=18775739396. I'm not blonde or thin like the model but I still love it, and I'll be easily spotted on Orkney.

Good morning everyone

Thank you Hester for starting the thread. It sounds like another hectic day for you, hope you get a chance to have a break (and catch your breath).

It's a nice sunny morning here today, Hubby has just left for work so the dog is sulking by my feet. DD13 has just appeared for breakfast but there is no sign of the other two yet. I've been up for aaaages, I think it's the light mornings that are waking me up so early. I will look into getting some black out curtains as I can't go on like this.

I have an Asda delivery this morning between 10 and 11 so I need to stay awake until after they have been. I have ordered lots of lovely salad and fruit so I can make a great big mixed salad and divide it into 4 for the next few days. I have my trusty lock and lock boxes which will keep it all fresh in the fridge for me.

Tea tonight is going to be sausage and bean hotpot. I will ask DD16 to make it as she isn't doing much now she has finished school. We will have it with new potatoes and maybe some green beans. I am going to try and have three decent meals a day and stop snacking in between.

A lot of my over eating is boredom so I will have a think about what I could do to use up some of my time. I used to do cross stitch but my eyes are not good enough for that any more and although I have my knitting, I am a little bored of that too. Hmmmm will get my thinking cap on.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning :hello:

flutterby Great to see you here again :T

The freezer drawers are neat and tidy, stationery is organised and bottles have been decanted in the bathroom, I have lots of recycling to put out this week :D

I picked a bowlful of raspberries and ate them immediately :D There are loads more, still green at the moment though. I'm going to start tidying that corner when they're over, I won't be able to do it all at once because there are blackberries there too. When they've gone I'm going to give it an overhaul and name it Fruit Corner :D

It didn't rain at all yesterday, I thought it was going to tip down all day. The forecast is good for today too. I need to rearrange a few things in the garden now that the old fence is down. I was thinking of a reed screen to hide the compost bins but I don't really want to build anything else permanent. I have three Christmas trees in pots, they might do the job so I'll try it today. This will leave gaps in odd places on the patio so I'll need to rearrange that too.

I haven't planned anything else, garden jobs always take longer than I think they're going to, lol.

Morning, am about to get ready and pool off to work. Last working day for this week though I may have to bring the laptop home to get yet more paperwork done.

I was given a beautiful (huge ) orchid yesterday by a friend , I'd made a lot of things for her grandchild, so am hoping not to kill it dead. Am not all that good with orchids so fingers crossed. It is a really pretty one.

Worked late yesterday and will be late again today. I stayed up late to see if I might be able to sleep a little later and no, that backfired a bit as I couldn't get to sleep, then woke several times - ultimately got up at the same time.

It looks love a lovely day. I'm tired but cheerful.

Have a good day everyone

Morning all and thanks for starting us off HESTER. A lovely start here and forecast to remain so. The sneaky wind of yesterday looks to have dropped.

We went to the As*a Opticians as planned and both got a pair of specs ordered. Mr TA has plumped for varifocals for the first time so I hope he copes with them. I remember the feeling of the floor and stairs coming up to meet me but you soon get used to it! He wanted lightweight, rimless, and got just what he wanted for £70 including lenses. Much better price than the High St opticians where he had his eye test! We settled on 'Spoons for late lunch being Steak Day - Mr TA had sirloin and I had bbq chicken. Very nice it was too!

I am eating out again tonight as it's the monthly "girls" wine and carvery night out. We didn't have one last month due to Mr TA's hospital stay and two of our number being away on holiday. Just one AWOL tonight! I got an email voucher from Toby's yesterday for 25% off all food so that was good timing! If it was off wine as well that would be even better!!

Shopping day has been brought forward to today as we have Leeds tomorrow for Mr TA's injection. I have an assortment of vouchers for money off and bonus points etc for Sainsbobs so, as we don't need a great deal this week, might just go there and stick rigidly to my list! Plus Wednesday's always seem quiet and that means more yellow stickers about!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Still no posts from LAMEWOLF. Hope she is ok. Take care xx

Morning everyone,

Dry and reasonably bright here.

Well, the fridge freezer has finally arrived and now switched on after standing for a suitable time, have to admit it is rather nice :) am planning to pick up some frozen bits this afternoon as don't believe it's very economical for the freezer part to stand empty?

We celebrated its safe arrival by going out for an evening meal, broke all my diet rules by having pasta AND wine but boy was it yummy so thoroughly enjoyed, we did get some money off with OH's tastecard. It came free with his football membership so win win really.
Met the new manager at work, first impressions are hmm, as my darling Dad would say his handshake was like a limp fish so we will have to see.

Love the top Gers
Another one here missing Lamewolf hope she's ok

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good morning everyone,
I agree. lovely top Gers. I love the colour. Sun is shining, and the sky is blue, what more can a person want :)

My washing is dry and I may iron it later ,or on the other hand I may just go out to play instead :) I am going to have a look at a W.I. charity shop in a small local village which only opens on a Wednesday lunchtime for 2 hours :) might find a treasure or two :)

I have found a nice steak in the freezer last night that will be a tasty mid week treat. It was Y/S and about two months old and I had forgotten about it I also have some asparagas in there that was y/s to 10p so that was hoiked out to go with my steak.

Doing my best to use stuff up rather than buy more at the moment.

Its my youngest DGD's Holly's 23rd birthday today so I will drop her present round later.

Came forth at the quiz last night but we all had a nice evening.I also had three donations for Saturday which was nice and our totals are up to £375.00 for just DD and I, so were are both pleased with the results so far.Thank you to all who have donated, its so kind of you all, and we will do our best on the day.

DGS Jack has his 6th form induction day today and tomorrow, so I will have to pop in to Dds to let the dogs out at some point today as well.

Just over 5 weeks until our family holiday on the Isle of Wight and I can't wait :) the boys are getting excited as usual,we go every year yet they still get really chuffed about going as its become a tradition now. Both of my DDs virtually grew up on the Island during the summer holidays as my late OH's Mum lived there. Its just so peaceful and nice to get away from the traffic (apart from Newport which we try to avoid :)).

Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing

Cheers chums JackieO xx
• Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.

My neighbours gardener cut the Laura's hedge yesterday, and also made up the box for the new mower, so we can have a play with it later. It's the coffee morning round at the Chapel this morning, so coffee and cake, yum yum.

OH has just gone off to get his INR done, hope it's ok, it does swing about a bit which is a pain.

New water butt coming, the one we got must be split somewhere on the bottom, it was leaking, we thought it was the tap, but the tap was shut off and no water drips. They have replaced it.

It's fine and sunny just now, how long it lasts is something else....apparently there has been an accident on the M1, all the local roads are jammed with traffic, good job we have no journeys planned.chaos reigns.

Time to get up and face the day, cheers.
