broken oven - brownie help
My rather old gas oven is on it's way out I'm afraid. Unless it's set to 250C the gas flame goes out, and cannot be reignited. This isn't a great issue - most things can be done on the hob or in the slow cooker if they need a lower temp but I'm a bit stuck when it comes to brownies, which my OH loves. I guess I could just…

Vitalite
I started using Vitalite spread, as opposed to Flora/Utterly Butterly spreads. It seems Vitalite is very good for you. Even suitable for Vegans, and only costs 83p for 500g tub. I am finding it tastes great, spreads easily, good to cook with too. The empty tubs are good containers too.

Chicken, Ginger & Garlic
Hope someone can help. I oven cooked chicken breasts with onions, olive oil & a paste of garlic & ginger (came in a jar)I found in the Asian shop. It's a bit runny & too oniony for me. Fatty beef
I bought some brisket which I boiled for 5 hours with star anise, cinnamon, white cardamom, szechuan pepper, garlic, ginger, chinese wine, and beef stock. Unfortunately while the result was ok, the beef really wasn't as fatty as you would get in Asia. Any ideas about a fattier, more sinewy cut than brisket, suitable for…

Homemade pickling vinegar
As it's in season I have in mind to make some beetroot chutney. I've got plenty of white vinegar and thought I could make my own pickling vinegar but am unsure what to do. I'm fairly sure I have pickling spice. The recipe calls for a pint of white pickling vinegar. Please could anyone advise me what to do and quantities?

When Is an Oat Not An Oat? (for flapjacks/cereal bars)
So, there I was, in the oats aisle for the second time, wanting to make cereal bars/flapjacks. But there are lots of things there and I spent 20 minutes reading all the bags and thinking about "when is an oat not an oat". There seem to be three sorts: - porridge oats - muesli - crunchy oats, e.g. these…

I've got a couple of jumpers for the children that fit in the body but I struggle to get them over their heads, I think my lot have big heads! Was wondering how I could go about widening the necks without the whole thing coming apart. Thinking maybe if I sew some fabric onto the shoulder I can cut through then put some…

Freezing rice and pasta?
Hello :) I've just started [sort of] batch cooking, and I was wondering when I make meals with rice and pasta in them, can the rice and pasta be frozen after I've cooked it, or should I just freeze the sauces and make the rice or pasta as I go during the week? Freezing the whole lot would be easier, but I'm just not sure…

Has anyone used an egg coddler?
I've found a thread about what an egg coddler is, but there doesn't seem to be any advice about using one. I got a lovely Royal Worcester one for £1.25 from a charity shop (list price £15.50!) and have just tried to use it. I put a bit of butter in the bottom and broke my egg into it, then screwed the lid back on and stood…

Dried beans help please
I bought a packet of dried mixed beans intending to make a flan/tart like I used to years ago. But now I can't remember how I did it? Has anyone got any ideas please? I've got plenty off eggs etc and can knock up some pastry if need be. I think I used to do like a fritter in a heavy frying pan, but I just can't remember.

How do you use a Bamix ?
I've just been given a Bamix by a friend who can't get on with it. It has no instructions, but I have managed to identify what the bits are for from their website.
