How do you use a Bamix ?

I've just been given a Bamix by a friend who can't get on with it. It has no instructions, but I have managed to identify what the bits are for from their website. I have also found a few recipes online (mayo without egg, diet whipped cream, fresh fruit foam,TOOTHPASTE, avocado face cream and a dressing for salmon). I can see it will be good for whizzing soups but these recipes don't inspire me and I can't think how else I would use it. Can anyone suggest any sensible things they use a Bamix for, and/or any good recipes, please ? otherwise I think my friend gets it back, but I am sure I have heard people on here enthusing about them and I do so wonder how they are being used. Many thanks (she says hopefully...)

It might be easier if you give us an idea what you like to eat, I use mine several times a week, but we eat gallons of soup! I also use it for whipping cream (takes 10 seconds), smoothing sauces, grinding nuts etc.

Thanks daska: we eat very ordinary stuff: pasta with hm sauces, mince served with tatties, or turned into chili, cauli cheese, risottos, chicken cooked hundreds of different ways, mostly with hm sauces of some sort. Fish mostly cooked in sauces. lots of veg. We don't fry and dont eat a lot of red meat (except mince) occasionally a nice beef stew, or a lamb chop. In summer lots of salads so it will be good for making dressings (tho can you make a mayo with egg in it - unlike the nasty eggless recipe I have ?) I can see it will be v good for soups, but please tell me how you whip cream with it - that would be v helpful, also nuts (I don't have the extra 'slicey' thing). Thank you !

cream - use the 'flat' blade in a tall, narrow container. stick the bamix right down at the bottom before you turn it on, then draw it up sloooowwwwlllllyyyyyyy...

    mayo with egg - yes!

nuts - I have the grinder/chopper bowl for these so doesn't apply to you.

sauces - very good for smoothing (use the blade with the little holes) and blending thickeners such as flour - don't overdo it though, I find it's best to blend the flour into cold liquid and then cook.

    does that start to help?

The grinder/chopper is wonderful and not too expensive. I have a slicesy but I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

  • Please can amyone tell me if a Bamix is really much better than the cheaper stick blenders. I saw one at a food show and thought it was amazing esp with the whipped milk which was as thick as cream but I don't want to be taken in when there are cheaper ones out there that are jsut as good. Thank you so much for looking!!

The Bamix is infinitely better than the 'cheap' sticks (e.g. the Mr T £3.50 variety). As you go up the scale (in price generally) the motors become more powerful, the attachments more robust etc. I chose the professional Bamix because I specifically wanted a very powerful motor so that I didn't have to chop my veg as small (weak hands) and it fulfils that criteria nicely, I can leave my carrots 3" long. It gets used daily and if it ever gives up the ghost I'll be ordering a new one the same day!
