Any uses for......
a bread machine that always kneads? I made pizza dough today, and it was only when the cycle stopped that I notices that it didn't stop - the paddle now starts as soon as the machine is plugged in so making bread with it is out! The pizza base was ok, but it only had one rise so it wasn't as good as usual. Oh well. I don't…

Myself and my flat mate are moving out of our rented flat soon. We intend to leave it in a spotless, sparkling clean condition (even though it wasnt particularly clean when we moved in! ) - so there cannot possibly be any excuse for not giving us our deposit back! Nb. we havent broken anything! Am going to be…

The Little Things ...
On days when being OS doesn't feel like it's bringing it's own rewards, it's sometimes the little things which make it all seem soooo worthwhile. D11yo asked what's in the lunchbox today ... among other things, I said "sticky gingerbread" (baked yesterday) D11yo beamed, did a little :j and said: "Can't wait to share that…

Slow cooker question
Hope this isn't a really stupid thing to ask, but.. Is there any point in getting a slow cooker specially if you're vegetarian? I understand one of the best things about it is the way it cooks meat slowly.. so if you don't eat meat or fish, is it that much better than just cooking it in a pan? What are the benefits, apart…

Cooking Rice on a gas hob
I know this is a strange question. But since moving in to our new house we have not cooked savoury rice. We are use to cooking it on a electric hob. Husband has decided to cook rice for his tea and I am rather stumped. Many thanks in advance. Yours Calley

Please help me become OS
I've been on this site for a while but i've only recently ventured onto the OS forum - but now i'm a convert! Have invested in a slow cooker and am slowly changing the family's eating habits. What totally convinced me was i made a "slow cooker meal" last week and there was absolute silence at the table. No whining, no…

Bongela alternative?
Hey all, hoping you can come to my rescue once again! I am suffering (big sigh please) as one of my wisdom teeth is coming through, having gone through this twice before (i'm sure people know what i mean) and having to have them taken out I know the next few weeks are going to be sore. I usually load up on bongela type…

dish is too salty!
I made stirfry with beef and noodles last night and for some reason it came out far far too salty. I don't use salt in cooking anymore, and my husband had bought a packet of some random 'stirfry seasoning', but it's left it too salty. We ate it, but there are leftovers which I don't want to throw away - is there anything I…

Junk Mail
I don't know whether this is strictly old-style, but as we all rage against consumerism, I guess the related junk mail through our letter boxes is something we'd all like to be rid of. I just wondered how many of us are returning our junk mail to the senders? I had always recycled mine, and have signed up to the Mailing…

Lots of courgettes??
Yep. It's true :) I'm a virgin when it comes to courgettes... and since I now have a number of them (courtesy of my box scheme) I'm wondering what the best way to first try them might be. Any ideas for this learner driver please? :)

Which vinegar do you use to make pickles and chutney?
Hi all, Just wondering is someone can let me know the answer to this one. My local supermarkets have stopped selling white distilled vinegar and now only sell pickling vinegar, so I'm hoping they're one and the same thing. I think maybe the "pickling" sort is white with added spices ... would this be OK for spot cleaning…
