'New' car at 16
Hi there, So I'm 17 in February, but we've been looking around for cars to buy and then put into SORN until I have my full licence. We have now found a tidy 07 corsa and have now put a deposit on it, and we're picking it up next Wednesday. I have a few questions about ownership, insurance and tax on the car. My dad is…

someone bumped into back of car
Hi All, Someone the other day bumped into the back of my car and wants to settle it outside of insurance which I have agreed to. It about £220 I got two quotes for them and they selected the cheapest which is common sense. They have now sent me a text message saying they want me to take the car to the garage and when the…

Taken it to the garage and they have tested the fuel injectors and say all four are knackered. Engine still turns over. Been…

Solicitor advice
Hi, I was involved in a non-fault accident and my claim has now been settled by the insurer minus my excess. I have been told I can claim the cost of this plus any injuries back from the 3rd party (foreign vehicle) using a solicitor. I did not originally pay for the legal 'add on' as part of my car insurance, therefore the…

Cat C car been in accident with uninsured driver
Hi I have a car that was previously written off by insurers. The damage was minor scratch/dent but the insurance company said they need to mark it down as Cat C as the repair would cost more than certain value of car (mercedes and repair costs expensive). I just had the vic test done, then planning on selling the car and…

Hit brick wall with car - possible damage and who to tell?
While driving at the weekend, I took a corner too sharply without spotting a hidden low brick wall which the car hit and made a loud noise. I can clearly see minor scraping damage on the lower corner of the passenger side bodywork, and a panel slightly out of place, but i'm not sure if there's anything serious that needs…

which main dealer for service?
Morning all. Just wondered what are people's views on this: Bought a 13 plate ex demo/courtesy mini last May from Synter Nottingham, now due for its service. Is it better for me to take it back to Synter Nottingham, which is an hour's drive from me OR should I take it to Synter Leicester (half the distance from me)? Just…

Praise be to thy Snow Socks
Okay, so we've had a tight year, a very tight year. We would've loved to have bought some winter tyres in summer, but it just wasn't happening. Before Xmas we decided to spend £50-odd on some snow socks online. We were pretty skeptical as there were some mixed reviews. Forecast overnight, bit of slush, light snow. We live…

SORN And on Private Unadopted road - DVLA Court Summons
Hi all. After having battled these things alone in the past I thought it might be time to get the opinion of others for this slightly more serious incident. A couple of months ago, my car was towed and impounded for 'being declared SORN AND on a public road'. After half a day of phone calls back and forth with the DVLA and…

Notify your insurers
We are caravaners and reading our mag, read about someone who's claim was rejected because he hadn't notified his insurance company that he had a towbar fitted. We looked at our policy and noted we had in fact told them about our towbar but DH has recently changed our alloy wheels for steel ones and rang them to inform…

Named driver accident
Mrs P-N is a named driver on DD policy - her only car ATM pending purchase of replacement when she returns to work and DD returns from uni for the summer. This arrangement was fully explained to insurers Inevitably, she reversed into a neighbours car and dinged it - amicably sorted for £200 without recourse to insurers on…

Parking sensors
I have just bought a large Ford Mondeo and its a pig to park, I want to buy some rear parking sensors to fit myself, I am sure these are easy to fit as it is just a case of finding the reverse light cable and routing some wires. I find the front of this car harder to judge though (or maybe I am more cautious of harming my…

Minor accident and insurance
I had a car accident today, my first. I was at fault 100%, I bumped the car in front at low speed as I thought the car was pulling out the junction and it didn't. I have a few questions: 1. I phoned my insurance to tell them, despite at the time (see below) not wanting to claim for my own car. Although I was only notifying…

Recommendations for dash cam please
I want to get a dash cam. I am overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices and don't know where to start. I'd like something relatively unobtrusive, good enough quality to stand up legally in event of incident, and of course good value for money! i don't want to spend a huge amount so thinking in the £100 - £150 range but…

Best car for £3k?
An often asked question, what's the best suited car for me under £3k? Commute of 25-30 miles per day, often do business mileage and quite a bit outside work, so approx. 15 k miles annually. No kids/pets etc so no massive constraints. Would prefer economy over speed.
