Named driver accident

Mrs P-N is a named driver on DD policy - her only car ATM pending purchase of replacement when she returns to work and DD returns from uni for the summer. This arrangement was fully explained to insurers

Inevitably, she reversed into a neighbours car and dinged it - amicably sorted for £200 without recourse to insurers on either side

Clearly when she reinstates her policy she will have to declare it as a non claim accident but does DD have to declare it on her policy as she wasn't in same county

Not sure what is appropriate here

  • So wife has to declare it on all policies that she is a named driver on.

Should your daughter decide to stop having your wife as a ND then she would have to declare it herself on her policy as she was the PH at the time of the incident - if wife is on policy then it only needs to be declared once under the ND

If this accident was sorted privately without involving the insurers then you dont have to tell them that she was involved in the bump unless the insures already have been informed and it is on their system

if its not on their system I would just leave it and not inform them at all

If it is on their system then you have no choice but to declare it
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Well legally you do, it's a matter for the individual whether they comply with the terms of a policy.
  • I guess what I was hoping for was that Mrs P-N would declare it when she retook insurance out in her own name but that DD who had nothing to do with it (other than helping out her mum) wouldn't have to be involved

I think the answer is clear enough though

would this limit the on-going impact of this (in terms of nest year premiums ...) to Mrs P-N or would DD be impacted through association

Possibly, but the premium maybe greater if she reomoves mum from the policy.

I fail to see why DD would have to declare it.
She was NOT involved in an accident or incident
She has not made a claim

Your wife technically should declare it though, whether she does or not is a different story
  • The question is usually worded "Have you or any of the named drivers been involved in any incident or claim within the last x years"

If that's the case, and mum isn't now named on DDs (what does that even mean?) policy then there is no need for her to declare it.

I know insurers would love to have the information (oooh you fell of your pushbike when you were 8, that makes you a bad risk kerching! How many times did you fall over playing kiss chase kerching!) but there are limits. It all depends how the question is worded.
